Unhappy Cant Believe This Just Happened!

I woke up this morning and went to get the mail only to walk back and notice something yellowish on my driver side rear mud-guard. A closer look made me chit my pants. Apparently on the drive home late last night I had gone over some freshly painted yellow lines on the road that were NOT marked in any way that they were freshly painted, mind you the road is narrow and I know exactly where it happened because I saw my tire marks on the road where I suspected it happened. It was bad, as the pics will show you below, it was all over my wheels wells, front and rear along with the mud guards being blasted (front one being completely blasted). I took the car to my local body shop and he quickly got the pressure washer and THANKS to my crazy 3-day full Zaino detail last weekend, most of the yellow paint came off the body of the car like below the door and etc. However the pressure didnt work in the wheel wells and the mud-guards.

He used some enamel reducer and got much of it off the wheel wells, pretty much you cant tell by standing that theres any yellow. However I did notice little peices of the hardened yellow paint stuck on the car which with a little force comes out but the whole drivers side door and rear lower quarter panel has it. And some yellow is smudged on to the paint in the bottom next to the mud guard, around that area basically. Pretty much the mud guards both front and back are shot and im going to replace them rather then fixing them, the wheel well liner I can live with for now since you cant really see any yellow unless you really put your eye in to it and since the guy did great with cleaning most of it off.

Ill take some pic tomorrow to show what it looks like after the mini clean up session. Now my question to you guys, what can I do to remove the smudged yellowess from my paint? It looks as if its saturated in the paint, like someone pee'd on the paint lol. Luckily its towards the bottom bottom and not that noticible unless it me. Any products you recommend? I guess on my next weekend off Im going to have to clay bar the whole car all over again and start the whole detail all from scratch and hopefully get it back to what is was when I detailed it last weekend. Im in touch with riverside infiniti to see what he quotes me for drivers side front and rear mud guards.

Here is what I saw when I FIRST spotted this..I wanted to cry

Wow... That was pretty bad.

The funny thing is, I have had this exact same thing happen to me with a truck I had a long time ago. At least you were able to take care of it.

When I first started reading your post - I figured you were exaggerating, it couldn't be that bad..... Well, it looks almost like it almost painted on with a brush, it's so thick.

It sucks, but I would contact whoever is responsible for the road. They may pay for the body shop, maybe even a new detail. If not, claying should take off the rest, and I recently had a rear mud guard replaced, cost about $80.

Glad to see there's no permanent scratches or dents, that's one good thing.

I wont really know until I actually detail it, once I strip all the chemicals off the car, thats when ill know how badly my paint was effected. I know its not as bad as it could have been, being able to get painted factory mud guards though def. helped out for this one as mine took the grunt of yellow!

Should I get a heavy duty clay bar for this or stick with the fine grade?

Since you did the big Zaino detail last week - I think you'll do ok with a fine grade clay bar, but that's just my thought. There's other forum members here with a lot more experience at detailing.....

Man, this happened on my G35 after I had it for like 1 month. I was sooo upset and pissed off. Although mine did not have as much paint as yours it was spread out way further with little spots everywhere.

Call your city... I have a friend who successfully had two of his 22's replaced and scored a new paint job because of the same exact thing on an SUV. He took pictures of the site though and it was obvious that they didn't have cones marking the wet lines.

The thing is that it didnt happen in my town, it was the town where I work and it was happening at night and apparently town citizens were warned except for I guess businesses!

Anywho I got most of out yesterday as I was saying, it not as bad now as it looked in the pics but still you see hints of it here and there on the suspension components. I went ahead and ordered the mud-guards ($200) that I will try to get the town to pay for. Here are pics after the clean up yesterday, it rained all last night and today so the car is pretty icky. You will notice yellow dried paint stones on the paint of the car..

looks much better I say eh
