Steering wheel stiffening

Hello everyone,
My 2013 coupe recently started having the wheel stiffen up when I am at low rpm, reversing or turning my wheel at a stop. It only happens when I turn my wheel and a sound is coming from my pump. The car drives perfectly when cold starts but after it warms up the problems start happening I don't know what to do I changed my power steering fluid and bleed the steering fluid and still have the same situation. What do you think is the problem? and how would I fix this problem?

I agree with crookncastle...
Either get a new/rebuilt pump or a much lower cost, get a used one from ebay or the local scrap yard.

There is a two wire connector under the car that goes to the PS rack. This is your steering assist wiring, 90% of folks rip it out unknowingly. IF this is not damaged then you are having pump issues.

99% the pump. Mine went out a few years ago. If you blip the throttle while stopped does the steering get easier?

you are referring to the speed sensitive steering valve on the p/s rack. the poster is complaining about noise from the pump and lack of assist. the speed sensitive steering valve will not cause the pump to make noise.

My 2014 occasionally does this also. Began at 45K miles.

At least it's likely a pump and not the rack.

Right??? I'm on my 2nd rack/pinion and 3rd steering pump in 8yrs...All warrantied. My first pump failed at 15k miles btw... Just bought my 4th pump today ( HITACHI PSP0013) from Rockauto. I'll be installing that myself since my 8yr/120,000 mile Elite warranty expired january 1st. My car is currently at 98,000 miles. FYI...!!! I'm on a roll lately....6 weeks ago I had to replace my 7 speed transmission after a failed (drain/fill/pan drop). Pretty straight forward job if you have the right basic tools. I blame valvoline maxlife ATF. Last week I replaced Bank A valve cover gasket/tube seal after discovering oil on one of my spark plugs when changing them a few months ago.

Whoa! I'm so sorry you are having all those troubles.

Could you talk more about the drain/fill/pan drop? I was about to do that for the first time on my 2013 G37X Sedan next weekend. I was also planning to get the Valvoline Maxlife ATF as everyone in that thread said it was fine.

How exactly can you tell when the power steering pump is failing? I recently had a 2021 Audi Q5 as a rental for a 1500 mile road trip and so when I came back to my G in the airport parking lot after it being parked for 10 days the steering wheel felt incredibly stiff. Even a week later I still feel it is stiff but not as much as I remembered the first time coming back from the flight. Can't tell if it is me that I got used to the electric steering of the Audi for if my pump is going bad. There is plenty of PS fluid and I changed out the fluid 1.5 years ago. Also, when I start car I do see all the fluid moving inside the canister and there is no sound coming from the pump that I can hear. Car is at 66k miles.

Appreciate your input!

hey. it never got installed. i did a complete drain/fill that took care of the whine and stiffness when turning. the part itself is an oem pump from factory (HITACHI). nissan re-brands it as their own.
