How to fix exhaust drone

I have a muffler delete on my G but around 3000 RPMs you can hear a loud drone in cabin that could be pretty annoying on long trips. Anyone know how to remove it or fix it? I heard that a y pipe could fix it but idk

Have you thought of putting the mufflers back on?

You did this to yourself, An1hony. What did you expect would happen?

A muffler delete is actually an intriguing sound for the VQ at idle, and it's a hilarious, wake-the-dead riot at WOT. But for cruising... no way. And I guarantee all the local cops know your car.

You want the best of both worlds? Then put your mufflers back on and explore getting an exhaust cut-off. Illegal in most states, but then so is your muffler delete.

Better yet, restore your exhaust and save up for a proper catback.

exhaust progression of new G owners: muffler delete -> ebay exhaust -> quality proven setup

Up to you if you want to spend the time and money 3x or just do it right the first time.

an easy way to fix it is drive wot everywhere you go lol.. on a more serious note.. maybe someone can answer this for me.. why do people do muffler deletes on these cars? hasn't it been proven that the muffler doesn't take power away from the vq engine? im keeping my mufflers.. we'll see how my sounds.. I got headers, test pipes and y pipe.. installing it this weekend. going e85 soon after as well. wonder how it will feel. I cant wait.

Didn't want to leave you hanging, so I'll respond. I doubt mufflers restrict any power. Maybe a very small amount. There's aftermarket ones that keep the rasp/drone down, but even then the OEM ones do a good job for these cars in my opinion. The catalytic converters are the main culprits of taking power away. Same with restricted headers. However, V6s in general sound bad so it's hard to make them sound good unless their angle between the cylinder banks is narrow (15 degrees as opposed to a VQ's 60 degree). The cream of the crop exhausts for these cars make it sound even more trombone-like. I always close my eyes watching those videos to hear that trombone or trumpet resemblance.

extend your exhaust tips further out. doesn't sound scientific but it works.
