So probably still will have to buy. Unless someone know another hood?

Anyway, to play devils advocate a little, I wonder if your bolt holes were stripped or something? You ever think why the hood wasn't on the vehicle when you bought it? Maybe the original owner messed up when installing the hood and stripped the holes or used something in its place that damaged it causing your oem not to work. Then he just passed the buck on to you. Too bad you don't have a receipt. It seems more likely the issue be with him and not vis, as we haven't heard anything like this before. Since it does not come w hardware and its oem transfer, it's more than likely this.

If I do purchase the hood after all, hopefully I don't run into the same problem. If I do then I hope I can figure something out to make it work. If not, then I should be able to return it considering I am buying it myself and not through a third party deal.

VIS Please post here when you figure out if the oem bolts thread up with no problems please, as it most likely will determine if I buy or not or need to give time for you guys to fix.
read the thread brother the hood is brand new. I edited my last comment probably the same time you posted this. Crap if you like this hood i'll sell you my headache for a fraction of the cost if you decide to buy from VIS PLEASE keep us posted if yours line up and swap oem hardware with no issues I will delete this thread All the other hardware bolted right up. Except the latch on both sides. The hood was never installed because he thought twice about it. He also had a complete ILP kit still bubble wrapped that he also included with the sale, Along with tons of extra new parts. The car was a project that he lost interest in

I did a lil more research. No other mention of this except one from the autokits vendor account back in 2011. He said last time he checked the vis hood had issues with the oem bolts not fitting correctly and that he had to just make new holes then it was fine.

Crazy that that is the only other mention I could find anywhere, but it is same issue you are mentioning, so I wonder if it's all the ams style hoods or only a few of them that some guy in factory used wrong bit. Idk.

Now this makes me wanna hear what VIS says about it even more and if they are doing something to fix the problem if it is indeed an issue with all thier hoods. Makes me wonder if all years g37 have same diameter hood bolts as well, maybe that could be something we overlooking, but doubtful.

I would think there would be more posts about it if it were indeed all the hoods, or a vendor would have mentioned it and tried get me to purchase a different one.

agreed. However you cant "make" a new hole if you do you will have to relocate the latch locks as well. Only thing I can think of is buying some bolts that fits the thread, cut the head off, Fabricate a square latch like the oem or just cutting it off from the oem bolt and welding it. Or just start hacking away and make hood pins. Theres always a first for everything. I bought my G 3 months ago along with a truck bed full of new and used parts that was included. The original owner has no reason to lie as I myself took the hood from his garage with corner packaging with no signs of ever being installed and load it on my truck. The hood is definitely brand new. It was never tampered with i was the only person who attempted to install it

Yeah I really don't want to use hood pins, I think they are ugly an ruin a beautiful hood. If I did it would be the flush ones. As far as making new holes, yeah idk how it's all laid out on there so can't say. It'd be nice if was as easy as just drill 2 holes and done, but somehow I doubt that easy. I'm sure can fashion something with new bolts probably.

It's just mind boggling though that a company made a hood and didn't test the holes for bolt pin transferring, if they expect you to use oem and don't include their own. Even if that was the case, the fact we have only now really heard about it save the other mention back in 2011 is odd. Question is, if it is true, what will VIS be doing about it? Easiest and best solutions would be either fab their own hood bolt pin things and offer them to hood owners and include them with new purchases...Or do that for existing hoods, and correct/measure new holes and change them in newly made hoods. It will be a good indicator of what kind of company they are by how they remedy this situation. I really want this hood so hopefully the fix is quick.

Otherwise a duckbill trunk will be next purchase instead of hood haha

yea man I dont get it neither. They cut the thread but a size too big? IDK maybe it was a manufacturer error no idea. And agreed I dont like hood pins neither i wanted and was expecting to transfer my oem hood latch/pin over apparently the sizes are different and VIS seem to not understand what my issue is You would expect a 1200 dollar hood to come with hardware and good instructions i dont think it even came with nothing at all just the hood and cardboard and probably the receipt. Not anywhere on the site did they mention you will have to fab up own hardware. And maybe you dont. Maybe it was a manufacturer defect cutting with the wrong tap bit idk.

The AMS hood thread cut= shoe size 11 my feet wont fit a shoe size 11 my feet is loose in the sz 11 because I wear a size 9.5

My oem latch= 9.5 in a sneaker size
AMS hood cut thread= 11 in a sneaker size

The pics speak for themselves I sent you these pics already through email awhile back. You also said the threaded ends that are glassed do not come from you guys but the pics you posted shows they ARE threaded so who is threading these? And you dont know the bolt specs to this thread? Have not answered that yet. Also I will repeat it again, My ams hood was never installed. NEVER til the day I tried and that was when I noticed the latch slid right up through the ams thread. The hood can stay in the dungeon for all I care Im just hoping this will not cause a headache for other potential customers you may have. However I did want to mount it when going to car shows/meets
I understand what the problem is now, and have stated so in various replies in this thread. I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with your car, or OEM hood. What I'm saying is that maybe the ends on the AMS hood you have are cross-threaded. Otherwise, it would be an issue with our hood, where they didn't use the OEM sized ends. That's where I'm having an issue, and trying to find a SoCal car to check this on. I've answered the question to the bolt specs, and they are "supposed" to be the same as the OEM factory ones, since we don't include or sell hardware.

I am looking this up, and have been since I received the hood last Friday from the new shipment. To be completely honest, the return would not be applicable, because the hardware is not included. This would be whether it's a new hood, or old hood, regardless where it's purchased from. However, there shouldn't be an issue with the installation, and that's my goal in addressing this right now. I would also advise to not purchase our hood until I get some solid answers, and that way you can make a better choice. Although they're both competitors, I would recommend Seibon over anything else, since their carbon seems to be the most comparable in fit and quality.

All these are the points that I'm trying to address. Like Phx-G37s stated, I also have never heard anything until I received the email from, Demo. The shops that I mentioned sell way more hoods than we do here, and as a distributor of our products, the customers would be complaining to them. Then we would get those complaints, and asked to fix it, or they will stop selling our products. However those multiple vendors haven't said anything, and I need to see if this is a localized issue. When making parts though, there's a batch of 10, so it would've happened to more than 1 hood.

If there's anyone in Southern California read's this, who either has a hood, or wants to come down to check out a resolve for the bolt issue, that would be appreciated.

the thread on the ams hood is not not cross thread at all. IF it was the oem atch would still snug through it which it does not. Like i said its like a size 9.5 shoes wearing a size 11 shoe. if the weather here wasnt 30 and below i wouldve put the hood on my car and drive down the street to a local hardware store and get the number measurements on my hood and the ams cut thread. The thread on the ams is clear and not stripped not cross threaded it is just larger diameter than the oem

Research has only gathered this so far. I know many have purchased these from my company, and Seibon, but no write-ups. This was from, *Ice* who is a member on this forum.

"Installation was very easy. Just swap out the factory mounting bracket to the new CF hood. I had to put epoxy on the threads of the 2 mounting hooks to keep it tight, or else it would be loose when you screw it in the CF hood. I had it painted OEM color but still keep some CF accents on the vents so people would know its real CF. Looks really nice.

The small gap from fitment issue doesn't affect me that much. I would run hood pins but that required cutting a hole in the hood and drilling into the subframe, and that is too much hassel. I'll switch back to OEM hood at a later on when i get bored of this look.

The front bumper is authentic Zele performance front."

So question now is, if the holes are indeed larger than should be, what is VIS going to do about it? Like I was saying, fab 2 correctly sized bolts for it and offer them w new purchases and to owners, or change the holes in new hoods too. If you got me some correct size ones I'd buy a hood today lol. I been wanting the hood for a while, but have held off due to this. I wouldn't want to have to find a different hood. I also don't really want to have to epoxy my oem bolts in, that seems odd.

I wouldnt feel safe applying epoxy on the hooks driving at all, the wind and vibration could easily if not over time crack the epoxy and u dont want that hood slamming that windshield and busting the corner of fenders so idk about all that. Thats happened to a friends it was not a fun experience. Think its pretty easy for whoever is threading the hood to use OEM size

Yeah, I'd hold off until I find out more, or try another manufacturer, if they know or have the correct threading. What I'm told at the moment is that the hole is for OEM, and I need to confirm or find the correct option.

The other customer who used epoxy was definitely something I wouldn't recommend, unless used in conjunction with hood pins. That was only posted as an example to a similar issue, and that I wasn't able to find anything else and definitely not that it was a solution.
