what other cars did you guys look at before getting your G?
Thanks guys for the responses. It looks like most of us considered the same cars before we decided on the G. I think G is just the best balance of price/performance/lprestige. I'm gonna keep my search going for that elusive g37xs coupe..
drove a 328. loved the interior more than the G, but that car was pretty slow. the low end torque made me question whether i was really driving a bmw
335 was unfortunately out of my price range, so i didnt even bother driving it, but i'm sure it would have been awesome compared to the G
no regrets though, g37 is definitely in that sweet spot of price, performance, and luxury

Honestly I got really lucky with my coupe. I previously drove a grocery-getting Ford Focus and totaled it. I wasn't expecting to get anything amazing, I've always wanted an Impreza so I tried to look for one of those but no luck. I went to the local used car lots and couldn't find anything appealing. I was starting to lose hope until I came across my 08 G37. At first I just assumed my insurance would screw me and didn't put much thought into it but after I called and got a quote that was less than I was already paying I immediately went for it. Best decision of my life.

2008 G37S 6MT -- bought April 2008 ... loved it when I drove it.
I was only looking at one other car ... 2003 Acura NSX ... it was $50k and had 30k miles on the odo ... I was *this* close pulling the trigger until my wife said no to a car with no back seat. The "compromise" car was the G ... and it was $10k less (with a full warranty).
Never looked back.

G37 good choice.. the funny thing is my gas mileage is almost as good as the cylinder shut off Honda V6's.. LOL!
Audi A5
BMW 335
Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8
For me it was practically a sign of divine intervention when I bought my G coupe. My mother has been a loyal Audi driver since she bought her first Audi 5000 back in the late 70's. To date she has never had any major problems even up to her current 2012 A6. The A5 was at the top of my list. I loved every aspect except for those damn DRL LED's. I dislike them on any car but that a different issue.
Test drove the Bimmer and wasn't overly impressed. That and the fact that practically everybody and their uncle around my area has a BMW (or Toyota/Lexus) or two, in their front yard was enough for me to move on.
I did not like the interior aesthetics of the Genesis Coupe. The car felt crowded and cramped. It drove well but the car seemed very heavy and underpowered even with the 3.8L. I've heard others say that the 2.0T is not much better.
Can't stand Lexus- yes, they are full of technology, bells, whistles and LED's, but I will not pay a premium for a souped up Camry. Mercedes is too overpriced and is a bigger money pit than BMW and Audi combined. Can't stand Acura's styling- it seems Honda forgot that it began it's business in the racing industry as they have nothing really sporty (to me anyway). Won't buy American- don't care for styling cues or rebirths of old model names.
So, as I was heading to the Audi dealership to finalize a deal on the A5, I saw a G37 Coupe for sale in someone's driveway. Said what the hell and turned around to check it out. Having driven my ex's Maxima (the older SE 6-speed) I knew Nissan was a good brand and I always admired the styling of the G Coupe. A older gentlemen (in his 60's) owned it and was having difficulty getting in and out and wanted something bigger/higher. Long story short and after a 30-minute test drive, the car was bought and paid for and in my driveway less than 3 hours later.
That was a few years ago and is THE best impulse buy ever. Only complaint: I wish it was a 6-speed but the deal I got I couldn't have let pass by. Though I'm not looking to trade right now, I do want to see how the redesigned Q60 will be received. But unless another manufacturer turns out something sporty and earth-shattering, the G/Q or the A5 would be my only two top picks.
