what other cars did you guys look at before getting your G?
Came from a 350Z and decided I needed something newer with 4 seats... but not necessarily 4 doors.
Test drove used 2003-2010's:
BMW M3, Cadillac CTS-V, Lexus IS350, Subaru WRX, Nissan Maxima, Nissan 370Z
Bought the G37S coupe after nearly 6 months of research and test drives. Undoubtedly the absolute best car for me at this time in my life. All the form and function I need, with above par styling, performance and reliability.
Good luck finding the right fit for you!
(Try getting on Autotrader and Craigslist 3 times a day for a week or two)

Our 2013 G37s is our 3rd G coupe and it is pretty much my wife's baby (she's always been a car girl).
She had a Mitsubishi 3000 GT twin turbo when we met but some moron sideswiped her on Sunset and totaled it.
We looked at Corvettes, BMWs, Lexi, etc. and she wasn't impressed until she drove the G (still G35 at that time).
As to the list above:
BWM - butthead cars; dealership so rude and arrogant we walked away while they were mid-sentence. Rudest driver on the road. (Do they even come with turn signals..?)
Audi - fast replacing BMW as butthead car, at least here in L.A.
Lexus - Japanese Cadillac...

Audi A5
BMW 335
Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8
For me it was practically a sign of divine intervention when I bought my G coupe. My mother has been a loyal Audi driver since she bought her first Audi 5000 back in the late 70's. To date she has never had any major problems even up to her current 2012 A6. The A5 was at the top of my list. I loved every aspect except for those damn DRL LED's. I dislike them on any car but that a different issue.
Test drove the Bimmer and wasn't overly impressed. That and the fact that practically everybody and their uncle around my area has a BMW (or Toyota/Lexus) or two, in their front yard was enough for me to move on.
I did not like the interior aesthetics of the Genesis Coupe. The car felt crowded and cramped. It drove well but the car seemed very heavy and underpowered even with the 3.8L. I've heard others say that the 2.0T is not much better.
Can't stand Lexus- yes, they are full of technology, bells, whistles and LED's, but I will not pay a premium for a souped up Camry. Mercedes is too overpriced and is a bigger money pit than BMW and Audi combined. Can't stand Acura's styling- it seems Honda forgot that it began it's business in the racing industry as they have nothing really sporty (to me anyway). Won't buy American- don't care for styling cues or rebirths of old model names.
So, as I was heading to the Audi dealership to finalize a deal on the A5, I saw a G37 Coupe for sale in someone's driveway. Said what the hell and turned around to check it out. Having driven my ex's Maxima (the older SE 6-speed) I knew Nissan was a good brand and I always admired the styling of the G Coupe. A older gentlemen (in his 60's) owned it and was having difficulty getting in and out and wanted something bigger/higher. Long story short and after a 30-minute test drive, the car was bought and paid for and in my driveway less than 3 hours later.
That was a few years ago and is THE best impulse buy ever. Only complaint: I wish it was a 6-speed but the deal I got I couldn't have let pass by. Though I'm not looking to trade right now, I do want to see how the redesigned Q60 will be received. But unless another manufacturer turns out something sporty and earth-shattering, the G/Q or the A5 would be my only two top picks.

A ''souped up Camry''?? That's tantamount to saying you are in a souped up Altima. Its one thing to be biased, but to spout of nonsense like that is ridiculous.
Since I had a G35 the decision to stay Infiniti was not that hard. I had no issues with my G35 until I decided to change the Water pump myself.
I test drove the New Volkswagen Diesel Passat. Peppy engine and I almost pulled the trigger, but the interior had that faux plastic wood. I hate that crap.
I test drove a WRX STI. I am in love with the car but man the interior just plain sucks. 6 years later the interior still sucks. I understand the money is in the engine and drive train.
No American car period. I will never buy another American branded car.
Test drove an Audi RS5 but that's a dream car.
So I bought my G37S and I am a happy camper again.
I loved my 2006 G35, to me she had nice lines, I still love seeing G35's

BMW 328i, WRX STI, IS250, Genesis coupe 3.8, golf gti
G was always my first choice, but finding a 6 MT in my price range with reasonable mileage was difficult. As I was about to set up a test drive for the genesis, a G popped up about 60 miles away and got it a few days later.

Audi S4: Love this car but was pricey, could only find high mileage, and everyone knows high mileage audi's are a no go. High insurance cost too.
370z: On the cheaper side with low miles, just didn't see myself pulling off this car as a dd.
BMW 135i: Pricey, hard to find.
G37x coupe: Wanted sport but settled with X because I couldn't find XS. IMO I got the most out of this car for the price. AWD for winters, sporty and somewhat luxury at the same time. CPO price with lower miles wasn't too bad. And seemed to be a nice reliable car. I always envied the g35 coupes in grade school, now I got a version of my own.

It depends which Lexus.. the older ES300 to ES350 was/is just a nicer V6 Camry, same chassis/engine, driver manner. Just nicer interior/more sound deadening, better warranty etc.
Incorrect on the souped up Altima comment. The G and Altima are totally different platforms..engines... G is rear drive/ Altima Wrong, Oops, front drive.
You fail to understand it seems. The individual was not referring to the ES series, but the IS series. To say something as stupid as those models are nothing more than Camry's, is as stupid as saying the G37 is a souped up Altima.
First post. FYI.
Mainly a Ferrari 456M. Love them (your like "wtf is that?" and consult google images), paid for inspection on one I wanted to buy, less than 24 hours later the dealership took a deposit from someone else before I even had the chance to get back to them about the stellar inspection results and make a deposit. Taught me a good lesson though PUT A DEPOSIT ON IT if your at all interested. But I figured the inspection would've shown serious interest but whatever - used car dealers suck *****. Probably for the best, i cooled on the idea after - plus they're not very common especially in badass color combos so its slim pickings, they stopped making them in 2003 so you won't get the same level of 'features' you do in more modern cars anyways.
Considered the Z but don't like the way they look verse the G which is the main thing. Too much like a porsche whose lines I never liked and still don't like. Never FULLY liked the G37's stock exterior look neither (couple lines bothered me) which held me off from buying one sooner, then I eventually saw the IPL coupe and was what I was looking for (sexier?) so finally made a purchase some months back. Having fun since
Lots of cars are fun to drive but if it doesn't have good looks I don't really wanna be seen in it no matter how badass it drives.
Hate to say it but money wasnt really a factor for my decision, but as a testament - I bought the G not because I couldnt afford substantially pricier cars but because they're just so sexy they out style cars that cost twice as much.
