"Goupil de Bouillé said that despite Infiniti being the luxury arm of Nissan, the new engine is not related to the GT-R’s twin-turbo V6, but that its standout feature would be mid-range pulling power: “Torque is as important as the output. If you’re interested in this kind of metric I believe you will be satisfied,” he said, before hinting that in order to achieve this the engine would be mated to an electric motor."

I smell BS.

Infiniti's just doing what it does best and that is talking. That is to keep PR active and to keep us desperate enthusiasts speculating while their slow azz engineers finish this their work.

It would be interesting to know how he "hinted" that it would include electric motivation as well. Turbo cars don't need an electric motor to be very torquey. Depending on how it's tuned, the torque figures are much more in line with the hp number and in some cases higher, if the turbos are small (don't flow enough air at high rpm) and the horsepower peaks before 5,252 rpm.

The VG30DETT in the 300ZX made 300 hp and 283 lb-ft. of torque. Obviously, the engine design will be much different than 25 years ago, but it's not at all out of the question to see 400 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque with no electrification.

Definitely true Sam! A vacuum of information generates loads of speculation, and we're quite good at doing that!

Yes, you can get 400hp out of 3.0 liter FI engine. The GT-R for instance makes 545hp with a 3.8 liter engine. That's 143hp per liter OR 430hp if it were 3.0 liters. Not to over simplify, but a lot goes into getting that much power out of that little displacement. But the point isn't if it's possible but rather if you have the resources and time to build a reliable engine that can deliver that power. Time will tell...

I still don't get why the name change. And the number sequencing (60 does not mean 6.0L engine) is just completely off now.

2003 g35 6MT came with 280hp, 2008 G37 6MT came with 330hp. That's an 18% bump so even if they stayed NA, judging from the past history they would probably make VQ 3.9-4.0 liter and make it produce something like 380-400hp. BUT becuase of the strinct mpg guidelines they have to move to twin turbo 3.0, 400hp is easy enough to make with 3.0 TT and I'm sure there will be a performance line with strengthened internals, improved suspension and a tune to do 450hp or so.

Highly doubt they'll shoot themselves in the foot by producing a car that will produce close to GTR's spec though. Not to mention G37 (or Q60) are relatively cheap compare to cars in the same segment.

400hp is hardly GTR spec. Whatver performance variant they make, it will not come for another few years after initial Q60 release and by that time new GTR is likely to be making 800-900hp. Also GTR is not a money maker for them, it's a halo car designed to promote the brand and many people speculate that they lose money on every GTR they make due to low volume. New Q60 including the performance variant will be their money maker and the new Z will probably be pushed downmarket and or discontinued for a few years.

Maybe he meant Oct 2016. Or maybe I heard wrong and maybe he said Oct 2016.
Wouldn't be the first time, nor will it be the last time that a customer, such as yourself, was more informed than a dealership's employees about a car they already or will eventually sell. I'm guessing the way that employee was informed was something to this tune. 'The new q60 model for 2016 will be coming to showroom floors in October'. So, yes, it's the 'new' q60...as in, a 'new' model year, but not a new platform. His interpretation of marketing speak led to probable misinformation.

As others have mentioned in previous threads, most of it's just hearsay and speculation. Some minimal talking points being mentioned to the side by higher up's that could easily be throwing some disinformation in the pot for the sake of hype.

Even from the concept unveiling in Detroit earlier this year to before that (last Fall).. the only murmur I heard of '2016' was that the Japanese market would see the new q60 platform production model unveiled for the 2016 MY. Nothing more than continued speculation. If I was one to look into a crystal ball, and use the current g37 as an example going from concept to production unveil, I'd guess that next April at New York Auto Show, the 2017 production Q60 will be unveiled and on sale in the Fall of 2016 (but perhaps in the JDM market first).

If you have never seen what concept our current G's came from, it's worth a look. As mentioned by someone else a page or two back, Infiniti didn't conform to the practice so many manufacturers tend to practice in today's age, 'here's a concept and expect us to mute the design and awesomeness you love about it out of what comes eventually to market'. Instead, Infinti stuck to the concept design quite well if you ask me.

^ I wouldn't mind if they brought that coupe as a fill-in for the 2016 model. I prefer that sleeker look compared to the bubbly look of the G37.

Just make it 6mt, RAS option, and I'm ready to drop some money on it.

That is the G37 pretty much. I don't think its too much more bubbly than that concept. And seeing how close they got with that concept to production I cant wait for this new Q60...whenever the hell its released! LoL

I just hope with all my being that they offer a 6spd

I hope the Q4 part of this statement is incorrect, can't wait that long. That said it looks like there may be a sport variant, although it sounds like all they are doing is talking about the prospect of one, for now.

Asked if this performance push would continue with the new Q60 coupe due to arrive in the fourth quarter of 2016 Roux said: "Yep. Well, we haven't seen any details on the plan just yet but definitely one of the engines on the Q60 is going to be geared towards performance.

Well it was always expected that the new Q60 would drop in Fall '16, so if it was released in say October, which is beginning of Q4 then it would be on track. It might release a month before, but I would be surprised if it was any sooner.

We will know more once the production model is unveiled and starts getting pictured on the streets. This seems to continue the idea that there will be a 400hp and 450hp version.
