I suspect most of those were written by people who simply should have gotten the MT in the first place.
Still, there are more people posting about problems with the 7AT than there are people posting about CSC issues. And again, relative to the auto:manual population, there are a lot of MT members on this site.

There are two major threads on the CSC problems. IMO, it's not a reason to skip the 6MT.

If the CSC bothers you, look at all the threads about oil consumption and replaced engines. Again, there are far more people with those issues than CSC

FWIW bleeding your clutch will further reduce the unlikely event that the CSC is going to go. Heck, just using a turkey baster to empty the clutch reservoir would probably help.

I did peel out at a light today in DS mode and noticed the car wouldn't shift out of first gear. Any ideas? I just eventually popped it back into D (or I could have used the paddle shifters of course too).

Why wouldn't it automatically shift into 2nd though in DS mode? Am I missing something...?
You can go from DS mode to full manual mode where it won't shift, that's probably what you did.

And of course the fun factor.

Care to tell how you based that off of?

And Lego...I will agree that manual trans cars generally have less related problems across the board from all car makers, but the 7AT is pretty problem free. Your posts are old & not really relevant to the newer 7AT's & more importantly the newer software programming. I researched the 7AT a lot. I had a ton of auto trans issues in other cars. I dont expext any trans issues down the road. Maintain the trans & your car & don't do stupid stuff & you should be fine.

This discussion feels so 2003esque.

Calm down hey32g. Guys are just tryin'a help. the advice in these forums is spot on, it helped me a lot when I was making my purchase, I def owe some brew to the fellas here.

With that said, everyone has their own unique situation. listen to what 2008G-Man is saying, he's correct in saying that if you have to sit in stop-n-go traffic everyday for 45-60 minutes then auto is something to really think about. I enjoy sticks but every time I go to NYC and get stuck on one of the bridges or LIE, I tell myself that if I had to do this everyday, theres no way I would be doing this in a manual.

Other than that, IPL in a stick is way more fun to drive then an auto, I have driven auto and paddle shifts in these cars (not ferraris or porsches) and my recommendation is go with stick. You are right in saying that IPL in a stick is hard to find!

The other thing to consider, as someone stated earlier that the Malbec black IPL Automatic comes with red interior, a friend of mine has it, nice car but not my choice. Not sure if the interior color confirguration for the slate gray is the same.

Hope this was helpful.

So true!

Our G37s is essentially my wife's as well; she doesn't work but stop & go traffic is a way of life here in L.A.

She never had anything but MTs until her first G (this is our third) but she has grown to appreciate the AT...

This is coming from an Rsx type-S 6 speed close ratio manual and let me tell you, it's fun while you have the car for a first few months ripping through gears and bragging rights to tell girls and what not, it's also a trade off because traffic and you don't wanna yank people' heads every time you change a gear. My G is an 5 speed auto now, and I do miss driving a stick, but whatever is more comfortable and enjoyable for you is the one you should pick.

You manual zealots still need to face reality. With modern transmission technology shifting gears by hand, other than paddles (for a few more years), is on its way out. Give it up. You’ll have to prove your manhood somewhere else.

What do you have against MT and my decision to drive one? You know MTs are like 10% of the total car market, right? So we aren't proving our manhood to anyone that would otherwise care.

Maybe you should be less insecure.

I really have nothing against MT’s. I’ve owned quite a few in the past and enjoyed driving them. What I don’t like his how often in these endless MT versus AT threads the MT devotees consider MT’s as the only way to drive, and AT owners are either stupid or misinformed. And, IMO if you read between the lines, there's often a suggestion that MT’s are macho and AT’s are driven by either women or sissies.

I certainly agree that these threads are silly. If you want a manual, you know you want a manual and nothing else will suffice. It's people like the OP who start these threads trying to justify purchasing what in all likelihood will be an auto.

.. well... Blue Slate G's are not as fun to drive as Black Obsidian .. sorry Check I am more macho than you

..and I get more traction in the winter time since my car draws more heat from the sun .. I am sure that transmits to the tires some.
