I have both, auto sedan and manual twin turbo coupe. Cant beat an automatic for long distance trips. But for nice sunday drive around town - there's nothing better than 6MT. Also auto would not be able to handle serious power without costing 5k+ for a built tranny.

For safety reasons alone a manual is a much safer vehicle to drive especially in rain, snow and ice.
And of course the fun factor.

I would have bought another SUV or truck if I wanted a vehicle with an auto transmission.

And no, it doesn't have the rev matching like the 370Z. Still a very fun car to drive.

Just wish it had a bit more torque.

But with this car, you trade luxury and comfort, for raw performance.

But if I wanted that, I would have bought a 370Z or a Mustang Cobra.

Overall very happy with my baby.
Interesting take; I consider our G37s to be a GT; just too heavy to be a sport coupe.

As you said (but backwards) you are trading some performance for luxury and comfort, which is why I wouldn't have anything but the AT.

Reading all the isues with the MT SC doesn't make me regret my decision, either...

LMFAO

The CSC is overblown based on the preponderance of 6MT owners on this and the Z site compared to the 7AT population. Tons of manual owners have no problems and aren't on these boards. Nobody joins to say 'my csc is fine'

Whatever you need to justify the 7AT

Meanwhile, let's talk about 7AT issues:

I could branch out into other non G sites and go on if you'd like, but it would be far simpler to google 'G37 transmission problems'

I have a 2008 with 85k miles and a 5 speed AT ... zero problems. There's a ton of MT post with issues too. Cracks me up with all the ***** flexing going on with MT vs. AT. I was using a clutch since I was 12 (Chibi 3 speed 50cc mini-bike) and many MT vehicles since ... I have no problems with a AT now, get over it guys.

That's good to hear, but not at all relevant to the topic, 5AT <> 7AT

Well not really, was merely pointing out that it's OK to go from a MT to AT based on your needs or past experience/preferences, there's no shame..... but whatever helps you sleep at night.

Drive what you want. With MTs being less than 10% of the market, the market has spoken as to what they prefer pretty clearly. The days of virtually every car having a MT option are long gone.

But to 'crack up' at ***** flexing is one thing. To add that you've been using a clutch since age 12 is ***** flexing.

Regardless, this is about the 7AT, which seems to get less favorable reviews than the older 5AT you reference, so the overall point of your post is somewhat moot.

Reading too much into it ... I was merely stating that I wasn't one of those people who have never driven a MT. Because I knew if I didn't, the next post from someone would have been, "well you probably have never driven any MT in your life". Seem to have struck a nerve (pun intended) with you .... done.

Reread my post. The CSC mention was essentially an afterthought; hardly worth the effort you put into justifying your MT.

I stand by my statement that the G is more of a GT than a sports coupe. It reminds me of my old 928; reasonably fast but better as a tourer than being tossed about...

I reread your post. You said the G was more GT than sports car. I agree. And that the 7AT trades some performance for comfort. Honestly, in the real world, I doubt there is a repeatable, measurable difference in the performance of the MT vs AT.

Then you said something about 'all the csc issues' which really isnt true. I'm not trying to justify my MT. I'm simply pointing out, to OP or someone else trying to gain some knowledge, that there are a lot more people having issues with the 7AT than the CSC. As for effort, that was about 2 minutes of google

Actually, your links all seem to be complaints about performance (transmission lag) which really doesn't compare to outright parts failure ala CSC.

I suspect most of those were written by people who simply should have gotten the MT in the first place.

FWIW, from what I have read here there are lots of ways to improve the AT's performance (some as simple as a grounding kit).

I have been happy with the AT's performance so far but I probably don't drive as hard as other here...

I recently bought an 11' IPL 7AT and I love the car - have never driven a manual and have no interest in it really. I've played around with DS mode and the paddle shifters quite a bit and I enjoy the car as a daily driver.

I did peel out at a light today in DS mode and noticed the car wouldn't shift out of first gear. Any ideas? I just eventually popped it back into D (or I could have used the paddle shifters of course too).

Why wouldn't it automatically shift into 2nd though in DS mode? Am I missing something...?
