Don't fix what is not broken. It can just cause more problems especially the vq didn't have any common known issues with the internals

Damn, that sucks. Hope everything gets sorted out. I was always skeptical about used dealerships around here, this just tops it off.

By all means, decline the chain job. Usually what can fail (infrequently) are the chain guides, and not the chain per se.

I'd still look into trading into another ride, whether it's a G or not.

If you are already paying to break into the timing case, yes change out the timing guides, tensioners, and the chain. The parts aren't expensive, the labor is. So while he's already in there it makes sense to go ahead and change them out.The chain itself probably doesn't absolutely NEED replacement, but since you're in there and it's cheap I'd recommend it.

Hey Betty I believe that's what the mechanic was saying since he is already doing the labour may as well change the chain.

I still owe 4 k on this car so selling and getting into a new ride is probably not a wise decision because it will eat into the sale of the car.

Exactly. The labor for that job is what costs thousands and you will already be paying for that. Changing the parts while it's already open may take less than an extra hour of labor and a few hundred for the parts.

GUYS!!, so i just got back from the mechanic the forum member recommended and he says there is no crack HURRAY!, but that leak.... turns out its coming from between the inner timing cover and the head he says no big deal. Beyond happy, i could fix it but he says its not pressing atm because labour on this job would be extensive i would hold off.

Thanks for all the help guys!

Good to hear, probably best not to wait too long though.
