Infiniti Consumer Affairs - poor experience

Black and waste, thanks for the input.

I ran PN searches: the catalogues will not supply the PN for the gaskets on the G25, as it is one assembly for the cover.

The cover PN's are different between the 25 and 37, though that can be for reasons beyond the gaskets.

I agree black, I have not seen any reports of G25's having the issue, though as they are somewhat rare, it doesnt mean it can not have the same problem.

I will keep searching.

The updated gaskets didn't fail. Everything else did after I had them installed

That is odd. My 2003 G35 with 255,000 miles has been very reliable. Pretty much only needed to replace starter, radiator, and two wheel bearings, outside of the wear and tear items. It is still my daily driver to and from work.

With that said, the 2015 Q60 will probably be my last Infiniti. Since they dump the 6mt and added turbos.

The brand isn't garbage, although I think corporate consumer affairs is. Nissan and Infiniti have been pretty reliable overall for a long time. However this issue is pretty serious if you have one of the affected cars and are unlucky enough to get bitten by it. If you've had better luck, congratutions and I hope it continues and that something like this never happens to you.

My experience as well. 137K on my 05 sedan and after all of those miles the only things I have had to address in that time other than routine maintenance were failing bushings on the front LCA's and a cracked crappy OEM radiator. And after all of these miles those 2 issues could be considered routine IMHO and DIY'ing cost me less than $400 total and a couple of hours in/under the car. The G's been a godsend for the last 7 years, but she's up for sale. Got a relatively new lady in my life, an 06 GTO 6MT with a whopping 36K miles ATM. Love, love, love my new girl!!!!!

Long time no see Tim. I expect you probably didn't read all of this long thread, but it doesn't affect your car. Only the first few year models of the VHR motors.

Congrats on the Goat, sounds like you found a gem.

Thanks Jeremy, I don't know if it's a commentary on my life or not but I did read the whole thread lol. Sucks that Infiniti did you wrong but sadly I hear stories all the time about them that mirror your experience. When I bought the GTO I had narrowed my 2 final choices to it and an 09 G37 coupe (non-sport) that had 55K miles and was also in great shape. But then I drove the Goat and the decision was clear.........

Can't wait to see you and the family, I might even let you drive Peyton. I'll be sure to give you a heads up when I'll be heading that way so hopefully we can hang out.

Just curious from these 2 pics what you have to remove to access all those gasket cover screws? Looks like you'll have to remove that lower left guide and possibly the cam gears, but that looks like there might be just enough room to get a screw drive in there (around the cam gears). Anyone that's done this or seen what's in the way would be nice to know exactly what needs to be removed. Not removing any of the timing gear would simplify things somewhat. Also noticed the newest part #s for the two gaskets only lists the 3.5liter but seems to be confirmed that the fitment is the same, just wondering why they're only listed for the 3.5 and NOT the 3.7 (denial perhaps, lol). Also curious to any that have done this what torque values did you use for the gasket cover screws?

There are no torque values given for those fasteners. Or that's what I was told by the techs.

I wouldn't try it. If I didn't do it myself, I had the dealership perform the work on my his one. Someone who's up their own hands on it could tell you better than I can.

Yeah, here's a complete rundown start to finish and this is just the front timing cover. Just removing all the gasket material took him 3+ hours And about 38 hours DIY. http://g35driver.com/forums/attachme...ry-gaskets.pdf

A fellow GTO owner.. 2005 GTO bought brand new. I chose it over the 2005 G35. The problem that surfaced later on the GTO is crappy front suspension.. front strut issues...that can eat the tires and effect steering/handling.. It was never covered by GM... google it. Also the rear (happened to mine can sag..) Put Pedders aftermarket parts in, big diff. Since GM won't cover it anyway.
