Viper smart start

I think I'm finally going to take the dive, just a couple questions if anyone knows.
1/ It apparently works off AT&T network, how good is that network in ny/nj?
2/ The quote I got from someone I feel is competent to buy and install is $695. Is that fair? I think I can get it a little cheaper if I buy the unit.
3/ Most of all I've heard stories of hit and miss with its consistency, is that true? Is it true about the unit if you only use it through the phone app, or both the phone app and the remote?
4/ also maybe a stupid question, but do I need the alarm system to hook up the tilt sensor? Can I just get the tilt sensor and get an indication on my phone if anything?

Hello,
new member here..
I'm also looking to get this set up.
From what i read from the forum, here is what i know.
better to have the viper 5704/5706 and add the smart start module..vsm250
rather than to get the vss5000 all in one system.
The vsm gives you the option of GPS tracking.

also to integrate the remote start with the oem fob..you must
install the dball/ dball2 bypass kit.

I hope this info is correct.

I initially asked my shop how does the smart key work with the smart start system,
they replied that once you remote start your car, I must use the viper remote to lock and unlock the doors as the smart key will not function to lock and unlock the doors.
If anyone can recommend a shop in NY that has experience with the dball kit, please PM me or post ...thanks a bunch!

i use ATT, im in the NY NJ area. I live in NJ and study in NY so both.

I have never had any problems except when im in the subway, but many subway stations i still have great signal.
