Oil filter change?

Just have a quick question-

I just changed my oil and changed out my oil plug for a Fumoto quick release valve (I agree with every one else who has one- nice way to make my life a bit easier!). I've always changed the oil filter when I changed the oil in my cars, but that would be every 7500+ or - miles or so. With the oem specs at 3750 miles for the G37, do I need to change the filter every time, or can I get away with every other time (or more?). No tracking, just spirited driving occasionally. Thanks for any input you guys have!
Bob

I'm not sure when a filter becomes harmfully dirty, but a dirty filter would theoretically reduce oil flow, which you need most at high RPM. Are you trying to save $? Or do you want less work under the car? Or both?

Whether you do it at 3750 mi or 7500 mi intervals, I have a feeling it won't have a measurable effect on the engine by the time most people get rid of their car. I mean, are you going to drive the G for 200,000 mi? Probably not. So my point is, 7500mi oil filter chng interval should be fine.

It's just with the quick change valve it's soooo much easier to just change the oil and not mess with the filter.

The filters are cheap...

I bought these a year ago..

Nissan Infiniti Oil Filter 15208 65F0C 10 Filters VQ35DE 350Z Maxima G35 G37 | eBay

$51/10 filters.. $5.10/ea.. Can't go wrong. Mine came with 10 crush washers too. Looks like they no longer include them though.

Ebay seller: getrrsold

Came out of NJ.

I don't know if it's mind games but. For my first oil change I went to a quick stop oil change station and tried out Pennzoil Ultra and was super excited, but afterwards didn't really feel anything special. My second oil change I bought my own PU and k&n oil filter to change and afterwards I notice the cars response is a bit better? Maybe it was the crap pennzoil oil filter they put on my car?

My ex wife's Dodge Caravan's owner's manual actually recommended changing the filter every other oil change. Think of it this way, as dirt gets filtered out it piles up on the element. This actually improves the filtration to the point where it becomes sort of restrictive. At this point the bypass valve starts to open and unfiltered oil bypasses the filter. I do not see any harm in what you propose to do, but I would use either a K&N filter or a Mobil 1.

Don't be lazy and change out the filter. Don't be cheap and spend the $7.

I will have to wholeheartedly disagree with LexiG37 about his/her opinion on the effects (or lackthereof) of not changing your filter and how you shouldn't care because you "might" not drive it for more than 200K miles. This person would be classified as "the stupid PO" we all curse at when buying a used vehicle. FWIW, I plan on keeping my G for a long time, and if not, I would hope that the next owner is thankful I took good care of it under my ownership.

I do agree that bobistheoilguy.com is a better resource for oil related questions.

haha.. just change the filter! its only 5 inches away from the drain bolt. i remove the filter first, then go for the bolt immediately after. i wouldnt take the risk of not changing the filter when it takes an additional 3 minutes (and $5) to replace. its pretty much right in front of your face when your looking at the drain bolt from underneath.
