Factory Warranty Running Out

The factory warranty for my 2008 Journey is running out soon (going to hit 60k miles by YE). We bought the G used from a Nissan dealer, the car was a lease return. That dealership is very close to us but the Infiniti dealership(s) are about 40min away.

My wife and I are considering buying an extended warranty and I'm thinking about going to the Infiniti dealership to do so. Nissan tried to sell us one when we bought the car but I didn't see the need at the time. Not that my car has had problems but as it get's older and there are some mighty high priced items on the G.

Has anyone bought an extended warranty from Infiniti after a period of time when they bought their car? What can I expect, do they offer plans that will cover engine, tranny (mine's auto), A/C, ECU and other high priced items?

We keep cars for a long time (10 years) and we both love the G a lot so I don't see us getting rid of it anytime soon. Any input, advise, suggestion would be welcomed.

I don't get extended automotive warranties. The stuff that usually wears out or breaks as a car ages is usually not included in the warranty. I think your better off putting the money you would spend on an extended warranty in the bank as a reserve in case something needs to be repaired.
The odds of an engine or transmission failing, on the G, is pretty slim.
The only cars you might consider getting extended warranties for would be German models, but I wouldn't own a German car beyond the original factory warranty.

I just purchased the Infiniti Elite Extended Protection Plan from the dealer. After shopping around online for the best price, I called the dealer and asked for their price. It was much higher, and I mentioned the prices that I got from the online dealers and they matched it. They also had interest free financing. It covers almost everything except maintenance items.

Mind sharing where you found the best price?

It was one of these two sites, don't recall which one now as I priced them several months ago:

Infiniti Elite Protection Plans | Infinity Car Warranty Maintenance Plan

Circle Infiniti Warranty NJ - Infiniti Elite Extended Protection Plans and Infiniti Elite Maintenance Vehicle Service Plans, Warranty Information

I was only looking for the Infiniti warranty.

I dont do extended warranties...I do it the old fashioned way, by saving up. I have a separate savings account for car maintenance and repairs. $40 a month goes into it (for 2 cars, the other is a jeep) for oil changes tires, etc and repair items. If money starts to build up past a certain point, I take it out and go to the casino.

Cant do that with unused warranty costs

I know I've had a transmission replaced already in my g at 20k miles. They have issues.
A transmission+labor for the car at Infiniti is $5k+
$40/month won't help w that.
These online warranty places don't seem to be legit as the factory warranty. Idk what I'll do

Yeah, I had a Sienna minivan trany replace at 45k miles. While the big three (Toyota, Nissan and Honda) shouldn't have major problems you just can't use that blanket assumption. I'll be looking into the costs for the Infiniti extended.

Then put in more if you want to feel more safe? (FYI I have close to $5k in that account after years of accumulation)
Would you rather pay for a warranty that you might never use, or save up all or MOST of the money on your own? If you dont need it, its there to spend, or if you do put it towards repairs.

Sounds like life insurance. Coverage day one, but, might not need it over the term.

I was glad that I have extended warranty. Had to replace my subfram twice. The first was within 60k mi. The second time was covered by the extended warranty. Replacing the subframe cost around $1300, parts and labor. I got most of my money back from the purchase of the extended warranty.

+1

Extended warranties don't work the same way as a regular factory warranty that you get with a new vehicle. It's much easier for them to deny warranty work/coverage. Besides, these cars aren't that expensive to maintain... I doubt you'd be able to get an extended warranty with 60K miles for anything less than $1,000.
