weight is a bigtime killer! especially with the g already being way overweight. If you could couple all of the modifications I plan on doing with the weight savings so far, the g would be an absolute animal.

So far (with new seats installed), 270 lbs

Future modifications weight savings:

LTH's: 17 lbs

lightweight pulleys: 8 lbs unsprung and rotational
lightweight flywheel: lets say 12 lbs rotational and unsprung
2 piece rotors: 30 lbs total rotational and unsprung
Forged Alloys tech1 wheels weigh 17-19 lbs vs 26-27 stock?: 9lbs X 4 = 36 lbs rotational and unsprung
to bring the total rotational weight down by 86 lbs total.

Please feel free to correct me anyone, I certainly do not have all the technical knowledge so please feel free to correct at any time.

From what i understand, rotation and unsprung weight combined are like 9 lbs for every 1 lbs actually lost, which i feel is pretty conservative number . That would make the car a monster!

Plus, i keep telling my mommy this is all for better gas mileage :-) Note to anyone else, that excuse might work with gf's, wives, or anyone one else who complains about you modding your car... feel free to copy

LOL, this actually kind of works until they see what your car looks like after and scream at you about doing ridiculous things and ruining a perfect car

Now after all the weight reduction, add GTM TT or SC, and your car will be perfect

A+ on that

BTW you should hit up a drag strip and lay down some before and after 1/4 mile time just as a comparison

Steve, you live in Edmonton! Are you really willing to give up seat heaters?

Don't forget a catback and HFCs would save you 10-20 lbs as well.

Given identical power/weight ratios, a lighter car will always be faster, unless youre at an extremely power-oriented track. Weight reduction starts cheap, but at the extreme ends, weight reduction costs far more than adding power and improving the suspension. As a reference point, if the OP gets his 270 lbs reduction, his car will basically have a better power/weight ratio than a stock G with all the bolt-ons.

Most people see the G37 as being a 'bit' heavy at 3700 lbs. A race car built from a production car is considered very heavy if its 2700 lbs.

@ the OP: I personally know a few people who have already stripped/gutted G's; PM me if you have any questions.

How hardcore are you going to be with weight reduction? I have a titanium headerback I use on my track car that weighs about 9 lbs, compared to a the stock pieces that it replaces that weighs 68 lbs (dual mufflers, resonator, cat), but it also is uh.... unbelievably loud.

bravo good sir! it's nice to see someone on the forums reducing unsprung weight instead of adding on to it

Looking at these photos up there of the car without a back seat is actually going to give me night mares when i finally purchase my g37 coupe i m going to have nightmares that someone is going to break into my car and take the material out... If you want more power why dont you buy a turbo or something I no the less weight the better performance but dude you just took apart a 40,000 dollar car!

Won't all this weight reduction behind the front seats cause the car to be more front heavy resulting in increased understeer? I would think the idea would be to get the car as close to a 50/50 weight distribution as possible. Am I wrong?
