G37s in the snow?
So last night there were minimal cops, no traffic, and a layer of compacted snow (yes, w/o ice) left behind from snow plows. Needless to say, I went out for a very fun drive. Another happy Blizzack customer.
RWD fun, sure, but only after turning off the traction control.
Hmm ... a lot of comments about the x from people who have probably never driven one in the snow. The Infiniti AWD system is fantastic. You never know it is there in dry weather, it drives just like an RWD. The x is very good in the snow, even with all seasons. Stops pretty well, too.
IMHO the only drawbacks to the x system are the lack of manual transmission and the fact that they don't offer the brake and suspenesion upgrades with AWD.

The coupe awd sport does offer a number of upgrades that the sedan awd sport does not.
19 x 8.5-inch, split V-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels with 225/45R19 summer performance tires (front), 19 x 9.0-inch, aluminum-alloy wheels with 245/40R19 summer performance tires (rear) RWD model
19 x 8.5-inch, split V-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels with 225/45R19 all-season performance tires AWD model
Sport-tuned suspension
Viscous Limited-Slip Differential (VLSD)
Sport brakes with 4-piston opposed front calipers with 14-inch rotors and 2-piston opposed rear calipers with 13.8-inch rotors
Sport front fascia
Solid-magnesium paddle shifters
14.7:1 Sport tuned steering gear (G37 Coupe Journey only)
12-way power driver's sport seat with manual thigh extension, and power torso and thigh support adjustments; 8-way power front-passenger's sport seat
Aluminum pedals and footrest
Makes one wonder why that is the case. I'm sure many sedan owners would love to have the 'true' sport version on an awd car rather than one that's rather watered down.

Jsolo, as far as I know (which may not be that far, LOL) the Infiniti "Intelligent" AWD uses Active Brake Limited Slip, not VLSD. It's more like Traction Control, coupled with a shift of power between the front and rear.
And I totally agree with you about options. It's nuts why they don't give you better suspension and brakes in the Sport Package on the AWD Sedan. Maybe the Q50 will rectify that stupid, stupid oversight.

Finally got a chance to test the awd on my new xs coupe today. We got about 4 inches of snow on top of roads that were wet from warm weather we've been having. Whole city is icy as ****, no plows/sand trucks, accidents everywhere...
I gotta say, the awd in the G doesn't perform as good as I expected. Works great for getting going from a stop but it would be great if there was a way to lock it in awd all the time. I was halfway up a hill on one of our main roads, not accelerating at all (just maintaining speed), then without warning my back end almost slid right into the other lane. I've driven plenty of rwd trucks on icy roads so I recovered quickly. I'm sure the awd did kick in when this happened but it sure didn't seem like it. Little bit of gas making a turn or even going straight sends the back end flying. When it comes to awd and giving it gas when going straight I would expect all four wheels to spin and no going sideways.
To be fair it is riding on some not so great all-seasons and it was particularly icy today. I'm sure a good set of winter tires will make a world of difference. But judging from today alone, on icy roads with all seasons the X handles like a rwd sports car, not a 4x4 truck...
I've since learned that the S comes stock with summer tires. That explains why I was having trouble...

I'm running Blizzak LM-60 225's on all four corners of the staggered sport wheels. I have a sport coupe. Hit snow this season along with ice and they worked amazing. AWD helps with acceleration or if you are stuck so don't plan on going off roading. My main concern is stopping so as long as you have 4 wheel abs (which all g37's have) along with snow tires, you will be fine.
Took the G out today to see how it would do it in the snow in Chicago...it handled amazing..alot better than I thought! I don't have the AWD, just the RWD on Blizzaks! If it slipped, it got back on track immediately! Only time I fish tailed was at turns when I punched the accelerator. The car handled amazing, even when I kept punching the gas!

You guys are funny. Of course snow tires > AWD, but gushing over Blizzaks on the G is somewhat over the top. I've got brand new LM-60's, and I can't wait for summer to get these things off the car.
Seeing traction control flash at you because you're going WOT from 60mph on a dry highway is not good. Spring can't come soon enough.
