Exclamation Car won't let me put gas in!

Last night I went to get gas as the car showed 1/8 remaining. It took in 4.5 gallons and then the nozzle clicked off (like it does when the tank is full). I tried again and it kept clicking off and won't let me put gas in. Then I tried a different pump, and got the same problem. It took like 0.1 gallons and clicked off, and won't take in anymore.

Right now my car shows a little under half a tank of gas. I've setup an appointment at the dealership for Monday, but wondering if anyone here has ideas about what the hell's going on!

I've had that happen a few times too. Pretty annoying, I'm not sure what the whole problem is so I'm interested as to what you find out.

Turn the nozzle to the left at about 90 degree and put it in that way.

Don't put it in so far, pull it out a little bit and try again. If the pump pumps really fast it gets blocked up quickly and thinks the tank is full. If you pull it out a little it allows a more sure flow. If that doesnt work try a new gas station

me too day before yesterday, it was at a brand new ARCO station. Was able to fill it up by barely squeezing the nozzle and trickling it in to restart, and then sped up slowly. Got it full though. Whoever find the fix, please post up.

My car does it at times also. When it happens, I will slow the flow of gas for a couple of gallons and then the gas will flow normally.

I've had the same thing happen at a specific pump. If I avoid the pump, everything works fine. So I'm pretty sure it's a pump issue and not a car issue.

This works. if you're looking at the gas cap as a clock then you usually have the nozzle at 6 o'clock, turn the handle to 9 o'clock and it will work.

I am having a similar issue. The car is filling up but only to 3/4 of a tank. I've tried different pumps and different stations. I too will be taking it in to the dealer. Let us know what your resolution is.

This is my second nissan/Infiniti and both have had gas filling difficulties. Weird.
