Made my Weekend

I was at the gas station on Sunday, pulled in next to this lovely, clean Carrera. This stereo-typical distinquished looking older (well older than me) gentleman comes walking out from the inside of the building. As he almost gets to his car he looks over at me and says "nice car". I chuckled and said "yours isn't so shabby either". We chatted for a while and he was telling me how he was going to unload the Porsche and get a G Coupe but the value of his Carrera had dropped so much he decided not to. He claims (who knows if its true) that this is the time to buy a Porsche, that they made too many and the value has dropped, deals to be had. His was a non-turbo and he quoted 4.8 0-60, not far off of the G.

Observations: Massive breaks on the Carrera, still a timeless body shape, smaller than the G. Interior looked nice (didn't get to close to get a good look).

Funny thing was, while we were standing there chatting an older (5-8 years maybe) Mustang pulled in, revving his engine as he was approaching until he saw us. We left right after that as the Porsche drove out first and I was right behind him. I looked over at the Mustang owner and he had this priceless "scolded puppy" look on his face.

This is the second Porsche owner I've had compliment the G.

I had the same thing happen to me with my 08 a couple months ago. It was an older guy in a new Jaguar XK. He really liked the G...

The porsche guy is actually pretty dang correct lol. My dad has a 996 TT. Its a 01. Prestine. Had it for a good 5 or 6ish years? Used bought for around 80k. Now that the new 997's have came out that dropped all the other models down ie turbos, carreras, targas, boxsters. They drop the 996 TT models down to like 50k for a 20k mile one 1 owner also.

Definately going for one after the G lol

The Carrera might be parts of a second quicker in a straight, but good luck around the track

He did make a comment about the track, not sure what he meant. So it's not good? I was mentioning about an article in Car & Driver I read about how drivable the GT2 was, didn't need to be a race car driver to drive it.

If you look at JUST the numbers, the G makes close to the same hp with the same displacement.

If you look at the powerbands, the Carrera's is actually far superior So much so that its shocking.

Yes, the Carrera costs more, but you do get what you pay for in performance and refinement.
