Strangest thing happened last night

I was at a stop sign in my 7AT and decided to play around and drive manual to make a left turn on a quiet road. In 1st gear shifting the 2nd at about 6000 RPMS the slip light came on which is fine, but the engine cut when in the corner just to bring my rpms down to about 3000 rpms or so ... scared the heck out of me. The car drove fine after that. Does the engine cut back the revs when the traction control engages in addition to the wheel power management? Anyone knows exactly how the traction control works so that I can guage this during hard cornering if it activates.

Sounds normal. If the VDC kicks in it will cut the rpms.

It's nothing to worry about, I'm betting your VDC was ON. Switch it off and it'll give you a little more play room however still, if it detects you panicing, hitting hard on the brakes etc it will still kick in.

All in the user manual

I am surprised that VDC kicked in so agressively for you. In my G35 coupe it was that agressive. In my G37 it normally kicks in just enough to keep you stable unless you are slipping quite a bit.

Thanks guys ... I did check the manual but probably over looked it. Good to know its normal. Does any body know if these cars have a safety mechanism that cuts the engine if you over rev the car, or will it allow you to over rev to damage the engine? My Mustang GT had this mechanism which gave me a little more comfort in red line shifting.

If you rev in place it will only go to 5k. If you leave it I'm DS mode then it will rev before redline perfectly. If your manually shifting in ds mode then it will keep redlining until you shift. It won't hurt your engine to redline every now and then but if your constantly doing it then it might hurt your engine in the long run later on.

Thanks JNGUYEN ... I don't redline very often ... I've tried the different drive mode and the DS mode is exceptional. Redlining on an everyday basis definately isnt good for any engine. The question though is when shifting manually, if you somehow accidentally rev past the redline, does the G37 have a rev limiter that protects the engine from dangerous RPMS ... in other words ... will the G allow you to go to 8000 RPMs which would likely damage the engine ?

Yes, your car has a rev limiter.
