Purpose of beep beep beep beep sound

I got into an argument with my father about something. He told me that when you startup the car your suppose to let the car make the beep beep beep beep noise then start the car otherwise you could damage the car or something. He saw that when I start the car I just start it up right away while it's still beeping. What's the beep sound really for? What does it mean? All Nissan/Infiniti cars make the same noise when the ignition is switched to ACC On. Is it a bunch of BS or what?

Not sure if this is the purpose of the beep beep beep sound, but it is a good idea to turn your ignition to the on position for a little bit before you start the engine to let the fluid get into the engine. I just use the sound as a rule of thumb.

Dunno 'bout your cars, but I don't "turn" my ignition to anything. I just step on the brake and push the button and it goes straight to "vroom." The only "beep beep beep" I notice is the one that means I forgot to buckle up.

If I had to venture a guess, the sound just verifies that your audible alarms are working (like the idiot lights). No fluids are cycled prior to start-up ... coolant and oil pumps are mechanical. Fuel is electric, but the injectors do not cycle when the engine is off.

The only thing you should really do at start up is let the car run for 15 to 20 seconds before to take off if the car has been sitting for a while.
If it has been sitting all night then let the revs idle down a little out of warm up mode before taking off. This will save a little wear and tear on the engine as you will get the fluids cycling before driving.

As far as waiting for the beep beep sound- that doesn't really do anything. If you notice after pushing the start button the G gives you a slight delay before it engages the ignition. It is easier on the electrical system to let things power up a split second or two before starting the engine but it still doesn't otherwise really harm anything.

The beeping is a reminder that your ignition is in the "ON" position so you don' leave the car that way and nothing more. If you press the ignition without depressing the clutch pedal on a 6MT it will go to on but not start. The beeping will continue for a short time. Your "fluids" don't circulate through your engine until it is running.

Ideally, you should let your engine idle until it reaches near operating temperature but this isn't practical. I do make every effort to run at least 1 to 2 minutes before driving, but don't always do it every time.

Maybe your pop is used to operating diesel engines where the glow plugs need to warm up before starting the engine.
