loud ticking sounds from under the car

loud ticking sounds from under the car

iv noticed loud ticking sounds coming from under the car when the engine is running! it kinda sounds like when you shut off your engine and you hear that ticking niose coming from it for couple mins but louder and faster sounding from under the car ! It wont start untill the car is driven anyone else here has had this or has this?

I think I know what your talking about, this happens to me when I drive "hard" and the sound is like a buzzing/ticking sound that's noticeable. Sounds DIRECTLY under my car

Nice description of the sound... same exact way I described it

Its actually a VERY common issue with our exhaust system. See the full thread here:

Infiniti will swap out your exhuast under warranty to "try" and fix it. I had them replace mine about 6 months ago but I still have the sound.

My G35 did the same thing. Is it really that big of a deal?! It's the exhaust cooling down.....

Should be normal. If you listen closely to the rest of the engineparts ( heatshield, exhaustpipes etc. )that get really hot during driving, you'll hear the same ticking sound if your turned of your engine for a while.

It's the metal shrinking ( cooling down ) to it's normal size, and therefore causing the sound.

i really dont think its the exhaust or maybe it is i dont know but sounds like its coming from the cats or somewhere in that section! sounds like pop rocks when you eat them best way i can describe the sound. i dont know if its me or the car but seemed to get a bit louder recently!

when you got yours replaced did the sounds go away for some time? besides my car was built on april 2008 i thought the promblem was fixed by that time?

NO its not the muffler issue, I had that problem 3-4 times, it's def NOT that...

Yeah I was thinking y-pipe as well, once I change my exhaust next week I'll check out the exhaust and see what is damage or what not.
