Exclamation 13.8 MPG in the city!!!!

Hi All,

I am at 8000 miles and on the last tank I filled, I got 13.8 miles per gallon (91 Octane)!

I'm thinking maybe my car has a problem I don't know of! Anyone else getting about the same $hitty MPG I'm getting just from city driving?

Should I take it to the stealership? What do you guys think the problem (if any) could be?

EDIT 1: I mean this car is supposed to get between 15-19 in the city based on driving habits! But 13.8 doesn't sound right!

EDIT 2: 13.8 MPG is what I get with the A/C off!

It's more than likely the way you are driving it. Either that or your calculations are off. I get about 17+ in city driving.

i think your foot might be too heavy. u could probly get better mileage if you replace it with carbon fiber

I've got 2200 miles and I tend to be a very "spirited" driver. I average 19.9mpg city, and like 25mpg highway.

If you average higher than 15 mpg then you aren't doing any real city driving. As in real stop... real go. Atlanta is aweful and I'm spot on with 15mpg regardless of how i drive.

I mean how bad could I be driving in the city! My calculation is actually exact! I just filled up 15.7 gallons with 218 miles on the odo.

does it matter if we use 91 or 93 octane?

From reading all the posts regarding MPG, I realized 2 things:
1. you get better MPG with a manual (obvious as everyone knows) but the differences are significant 3-4 mpg.
2. when you drive in city (LA for example) and short distances (less than 10 miles) you get HORRIBLE mpg - around 14 or 15....

Not as far as mileage goes

I think you're correct. The huge gap in MPG is primarily in Hwy. mileage, but 6MT is better in the city too depending on your driving habits.

Good point! I do drive short distances.

I also think MPG does depend on the number of time you actually start up the car!! Agree?

There's a connection there only because a high number of starts in a short period of time implies lots of short trips. Short trips means little to no time cruising on the highway in a high gear. Lots of time spent in acceleration from a stop means burning lots of extra gas. It takes a lot of kilojoules to get this beast moving.

Right idea...wrong reason.
