My X-Mas drive home...

Those of you in SoCal may know the freeways I'm talking about...

Bad enough I had to pick up and drop someone off somewhere 30 miles out from LA and completely in the opposite direction of the place I hung out at, as well as home. Anyway, while driving down the 60 at 5AM through Ontario, I noticed it was pretty windy outside. I get to the 15 intersection and I can hardly see in front of me. No it wasn't fog...it's sand! I figured if I keep driving down the 60 through that crap, I'm gonna get owned since it's mostly a dirt area, so at the last second, I decided to swerve onto the 15 south since I thought it wouldn't be as bad. Boy was I wrong. I was going anywhere from 40-70 mph the whole way down the 15 since these large gusts of sand/gravel/dirt kept slamming into my left side. I didn't get any relief until I almost hit Riverside on the 91, which was another 7-10 minutes of punishment.

Good news is, I checked my car and it "seems" like there isn't any noticeable damage. I'll examine it more thoroughly tomorrow when I wake up (at like 2pm lol), but for now, I'm just glad my car's okay (I hope...). I've never driven through anything like that and a clear bra sure would've been nice to have...although it wouldn't have protected my car entirely. I just checked weather.com and it says winds were 40+ mph. It sure felt stronger than that.

Anyway, I just needed to vent about this crappy X-mas morning drive. Have a safe holiday everyone. Don't drive your G's without checking the weather forecast first!

Wow, Darude Sandstorm now has new meaning. (Techno song for those that are not aware).

Is Riverside near Orange County? I was in OC for work about 2 months ago, and one of the techs that my company contracted said he was from Riverside.

Riverside is about 40 minutes out from OC.

Well, I just checked my car again and the only visible mark I can see is next to my headlamp where there are a couple small scuffs. I think those can be buffed out, so I'm okay. Anyone know any good car care products that would get that out?

dealer offered me an "environmental protection" for **** like this. in florida, it is more applicable for the bugs we have here.. but i am pretty sure it would cover that also. it is not terribly expensive, and i got it for my car.
maybe talk to the dealer about adding it? not sure if they have any sort of grace period with that kind of thing..

Crazy, good to hear that there's no major damage.

I use Meguiers. Clay bar is your best friend.

I got hit by one of those in my Maxima driving past Barstow on my way to Phoenix.....most of the car was OK but the trunk lid was thrashed.

Porter Cable + Sonus SFX-1 Deep polish, then SFX-2 medium polish, then a final polish with SFX-3 fixed it right up.

I had almost the same drive on Xmas and the same experience. 60 east, to the 15 north to the 210 east. The 210 was the worst. I used to live in this area and this type of winds are very common this time of year. I actually considered taking my girl friends Prius that day to avoid the wind storm, but I decided to show off my G instead. No visible damage, but I wouldn't like to go through those winds too often.

Yeah thought about it. I think it's nice to have, but whether or not it's worth having highly depends on where you live and what conditions your car endures. In my case, not really worth it. Besides, a clear bra may save you from a few scratches or chips here and there, but it won't save you from everything (i.e. wall, fire hydrant, huge rock, etc).

I might jump on it if I see a really good deal later, but so far, no luck.
