Transmission Info
Hi All. New to these cars. Just bought my wife a 2013 Q60 (I think 2013 makes it a G37?) convertible with the 7AT. Is this a learning trans? In D it seems to want to push through the gears way too fast. ie. changes up too early and really bogs the engine down. This behaviour is exasperated when cold and is annoying as at low speeds every movement of the throttle has it hunting gears. In DS this problem does not exist but its shift strategy is too aggressive just for everyday driving. So in short DS seems perfect for intended use but D is way too lazy. If I fang it a bit in D will it learn a more sensible shift behaviour? D needs to be a couple of steps closer to DS.
Yes the 2013 is still called the G37. Yes it's a learning trans. You could always contact the dealer to see if it has all of the transmission related updates. But the trans can be lazy sometimes as it's trying to save fuel. You could always reset the ecu to see if that helps.
Thanks for the info. I will probably just drive it a little harder and see if it adjusts itself. Will probably give it a service too before consulting anyone. Still learning about these cars. Its a late 2013 build and has a Q60 badge? I am in Australia if that makes a difference to the naming convention.
Thought I would provide an update on this. The car was meant to have been recently serviced by a Nissan dealer just before we bought it......so the book said. About a week after we had it and just after I wrote this post I pulled the air cleaners to check them. I have never seen air cleaners blocked like this. Clean as a whistle on the engine side but horrible on the 'inlet' side. I mean super horrible such that I could not work out how this had occurred. After a while I came to the conclusion that some imbecile had used filter oil on a paper filter! It is the only explanation. So the engine was always pulling more vacuum than it should have been. Once changed the trans is behaving better and we picked over 2ltr/100km in fuel economy.
One thing to consider, which I did on my prior G37 coupe but I now have on my Q60S is to install paddle shifters. Find the paddles on eBay or better yet the Junkyard. There are plenty of G37 coupes/sedans in the junkyard that you can pull the parts from.
What I learned about the paddle shifters is that you dont need to be in the "S" mode for them to work. Even in the D mode, if you are going up a hill and the car is lagging, just blip the "-" paddle to downshift to a lower gear. After 5 seconds the car goes back into the regular "D" mode.
Once I did that, I used the left ("-") paddle shifter all of the time. It's awesome.
If you do install these paddle shifters, be sure to take the TRIM pieces with it b/c your trim pieces will NOT work with the paddles. I tried to modify my existing trim pieces and its not possible. Enjoy.

Hi @petemo94 this car has factory paddle shift and yes I discovered the same thing. Extremely handy to just give a flick when you want a lower gear up hill without continually squeezing the throttle and then having it kickdown 2 gears.
