Nice to meet you here! I was looking for getting a hard top convertible just for weekend/holiday fun. Saw this one today:
Carvana link is here: https://www.carvana.com/vehicle/2778643
It's 2011, 47k miles, seems well maintained. @22k. I was searching google for review and found this forum. Seems we have lots of owner and experts here. So I decided to register and ask for your opinion. Does this look like reasonable price to you? I like the bright red color. As I mentioned, I don't plan to use it for commute, just fun drive. Hope it can last another 5 years as long as I keep the maintiance?
Link says car is unavailable- guess it sold already?
With proper maintenance and upkeep the G37, in general, will last quite a long time. My Coupe is 16-years-old and still drives like new. Just make yourself aware of a few common issues that plague these cars (heater hose connector, steering lock) and, if addressed before they become a problem, you can enjoy years of happy miles.
As for the Convertible... same premise, proper maintenance and upkeep. However, the roof does have a few potential issues that can become costly to repair. Specifically, the side flapper assemblies have a internal plastic gear that is known to break. Replacements gears can not be bought from Nissan (they want to sell the whole assembly ($$$$$), however, aftermarket gears are available should it come to that. There have been a few issues over the years with the parcel shelf switch, frayed wiring, drooping headliner, driver seat blower (melting connector), etc. Every car has its gremlins, though, and you just address them if/ when they arise.
Based on what I see on CarMax it seems the price is fair. They have a 2011 w 44k miles for $23k and a 2014 w 60k for $22k. CarMax prices are non negotiable and generally fair. https://www.carmax.com/cars/infiniti...&newMatch=true
There's a user on the Reddit G37 Sub that was quoted 13K by the dealer to repair his G37 convertible top. I will ask him to provide some feedback to this thread as it may be beneficial to someone shopping for a vert.
Hi guys, Carvana delivered it yesterday. Immediately took to a local Infiniti dealer had an inspection. They recommended four wheel alignment, replace power steering fluid, differential fuild, transmission fuild and spark plug. Added up to about 2000$. But then they told me these are things to be done at regular maintanence anyway (50k next time). No other issues. Tires and break pads are all good.
As I saw in some other threads, when the road is bumpy, there are rattling sound from the back. Convertible top works normally now.
Both front seats shoulder strap for the seat belts are worn out. Other parts of the interior actually look fine. AC is freezing cold.
You don't have to have all those fluids replaced at the same time. And you certainly don't have to go to an Infiniti dealership for something so basic, alignment as well. Network around for a trustworthy local shop.
Congrats on your leap of faith. The Vert is a pretty cool car.
Depending on your skill set, most of those items are easy DIY projects that can be done in a weekend. Spark plugs are good for 100k miles so, at your 47k miles, I wouldn't give them a second thought. Replacing the transmission fluid is tricky on the 7-speed, doable, but not a cake walk. If need be, research and find a reputable shop to do the work. I would not take it to the dealer.
Best of luck with the car. Now, get out there and enjoy your new 'Vert!!
Thank you both! I'm not a handy person at all. It's great to hear from you these are not big concerns. I'll just find some local shops as needed then.
Yep, will enjoy it and put some pictures in that sticky show off thread later

What do you guys think?
Mine did that. Dremel a little hole and get the old rivet out, then just pop in a new rivet with a wide enough diameter to hold well. 5 minutes...
