After fixing…stuck open and saying roof in operation.

I fixed the gear. Everything worked. Closed it, opened it. Re-closed it yesterday. Today took it with top down. During driving high pitch tone goes off saying roof in operation. Stopped and hit open thinking maybe not completely open. Drive and immediately goes off. Tried to close and nothing. Windows don’t even start to go down. You now can’t close it. Stuck completely open and with time when driving? Is there a way to reset it?

Is this something that could be done by purchasing the consult hardware/software? Maybe that’s the better investment, if it’s still available.

Did you ever put the consult guide together? Is it in another post?

Thumbs up just did Left flipper door-Dranik gear (didn't know about Guy when i bought this

Couple thoughts:
top down, trunk open, place a towel under the area you will be working to prevent things falling as well as protect hood which you will be leaning on
i did this method-only drilled out 4 rivets-removed flipper before starting. Only hassle was lining up drive shaft from motor to the gearbox on reassembly-you will need the #1 square drive to line things up
you can see the piece of plastic in my pic-found this in gear box "hiding" in grease. use a small flat head screwdriver to search for these when you get it apart
seems to be working well so far and will be replacing right side soon. it makes the racheting sound like the left did for months before finally failing

I got the carbon fiber gear wheels off eBay. They are a light grey color. $100 ea. Kinda overpriced, but they are the perfect solution. Kinda Assy that I bought 2 from eBay and the dude charged separate shipping on them both. Pfft. They fit exactly, 100% perfectly and no way those are going to break. My flappers work perfectly now. Those rivets were a PITA for me too. I think I need new drill bits. You definitely need a rivet gun and match the rivet size. I didn’t have to remove the whole trunk cover. I just pulled the plugs on half, and was able to bend the liner out of the way. Both my gears were busted. Glad someone made good replacements. $100 for one wheel is definitely squeezing every cent out of us, but it’s worth it. People who are innovative and able to make a great quality product should reap the rewards. Looked like he sold over 200 of those on EBay. Cha-ching .

These "flapper gears" should be considered mandatory, preventive maintenance replacement items. Just like the steering wheel lock (on older models), the heater hose coupling, and the sunroof drains, it is only a matter of WHEN these items will fail, not IF.

You must loosen ALL the bolts besides the few that you remove or you ain’t getting that arm back in place. Overall it took 4 hours. Yes I only paid $99 for the gear but even looking back I would have gladly laid out $1200-$1500 for someone else to just replace the arm assembly. I am no longer as nimble as I used to be and I was challenged to bend in all kinds of positions to get this thing completed.
Ha! I hate bending all upside down with that stuff too. I'm 6'2" with a crappy back and neck. I understand. You probably needed some better drill bits to drill out the rivets. The rivets are pretty strong. Those carbon fiber gear wheels on Ebay are very good quality, but a bit overpriced. $100 ea. The guy made me pay separate shipping for left and right wheel. REALLY!? Not cool! I also had the bolt that went "into" the rail that holds the mechanism pull the supporting threaded bracket off. That shouldn't have happened. I J.B. welded it back in place, then threaded in that last bolt. Kinda a PITA, but still worth it. No way I would ever pay $1200 to fix something that was really not all that difficult.

Umm....I had a blown fuse and noticed that my steering wheel lock fuse was missing. I guess that is why? It was really easy putting on the new springs and struts tho. I could just turn the rotor/assembly however I needed with no effort, which made it really easy to get my air wrench on ea. bolt to remove the struts. One of those nuts just would not come off!!!! I tried every trick in the book, but it wasn't coming off. I dremeled a cut on the top and bottom, being careful not to hit the bolt threads, then used a hammer and chisel to "stretch" the remaining nut enough to come loose. No that was a real PITA!

Your 2013 likely did not come with the module though there is some gray area as to when Nissan actually got rid of the damn thing. Either way, if there is no fuse in that slot consider yourself exceptionally lucky. You will never have to deal with that issue. That box has been a costly ordeal for many.

You may want to consider creating a "Build Thread." This will allow you to showcase your car and document the different plans/ projects you have. It will also help to keep threads on-topic. Just a suggestion!

As I was posting, I was thinking this should be a new post/thread. That is a good suggestion. I have 2012 BTW. I didn't know about the steering wheel lock issue. I suffered enough with that with my 2000 Porsche 911/996. Thx for not beating me up about getting off topic.

Carbon replacement gears.

Hi. Purchased my gears back in 2022 off Ebay. Bought a set for $199. Recently had them installed at MP Auto Repair in Arlington, Tx. Grubbs Infiniti wanted $6100 for the diagnostics, labor, and two new flapper assemblies. MP put my $199 gears in for $774. Now my G is a Smooth operator once more.

The G all fixed up with new gears.

Flipper Gear CAD file

Does anyone have access to a STL or CAD file for the flipper gear? I am trying to experiment with 3D printing one out of different materials so no one has to pay $100 for one of these tiny plastic gears that cost next to nothing to produce. If anyone has any files that might be of relevance that would be greatly appreciated!

We've seen plenty of plastic gears failing.
Do it right the first time and get the metal ones.
