2012 base , noticed that when closing top the trunk lands hard.Shouldn't it close rather smoothly than that sudden free fall effect at probably the most vulnerable weight position anyways?As a newbie and just discovering the ins and out have to say love the forum and look forward to participating best I can.

 

have owned my 12sport since new. Always behaved as you described, By design I recond.

 

K Thx, thought maybe a weak strut or 2 ,so will not pursue issue any farther.

 

The struts are merely to hold the trunk/boot lid in the fully-open position. They aren't designed to operate like electric motors when closing the lid.

 

Yea, it slams pretty hard on the way down. Always worked that way.

 

Yeah, they are pretty extreme. Scared the hell out of my wife first time she heard it!

 

Sorry off topic, but w/the top up, the manual says that the rear trunk will close itself???

DOes anyone's here do that? Mine don't.
