Seat Belt retraction fix is available

I thought I may pass on this info to all the G37 Vert owners:

I took my car for service to my Infiniti Dealer and the service tech adviser (whom I have known for years ) told me that just have only front seat belt re-tractors replaced and do not go for 2 button complete seat cover replacement unless your single snap button strap keeps coming off.

I don't have the seat belt issue yet in my car but seems a reasonable advise to me that just have the dealer replace front seat re-tractors.

My "new" dealer offered the new seat belt retractors and to replace 2 door panels that had some battle scars when he went for a test drive with me yesterday. I didn't even ask so how can I say, no. Apparently the old belts have 5 lb of retention which is not enough to get them out of the way quick enough for most people. The new retractors are set at 10 lbs. My 2010 came with the double snap loops to hold the belts in place on the seats. Every now and again, I must re-snap at least one of them in place.

- validates the info I got out of my dealer.

Your dealer doesn't recommend the double snap loops though? Not like I have a choice, but they seem to work

I've never had a problem with the single snap button.

good info cvipgo. I may stop by my dealer and ask them about it.

yes, the tech/service adviser(who I have known for years).. but If I wanted then he can/will order the whole front seat back covers as the strap and the 2 snaps are integrated in back covers.

I have had issues since day 1 with my 09 vert seatbelts. In early 2010 they replaced the seat belt rectractor but still same problem. Took car again yesterday because of damage on the door panel from the seat belt buckle. Dealership told me warranty would replace the panel but "Customer needs to be more careful getting in and out of the car!" I asked about a solution to fix the belts and they told me there is nothing!

I have contacted Infiniti Canada and opened a cases regarding the issue. They will phone back me hopefully some day soon.

Is there any kind of Service Bulletin for it yet?

Also I had to take them a print out of the TSB for the roof squeak. (thanks CVIPGO) they had no idea what i was talking about.

Yes, there ITB11-012 (2009–2010 INFINITI G37 CONVERTIBLE; PRE-TENSIONER SEAT BELT RETRACTOR SERVICE INFORMATION). It is very detailed and it does fix the problem.

It's unfortunate that your dealer doesn't know about ITB11-012 (2009–2010 INFINITI G37 CONVERTIBLE; PRE-TENSIONER SEAT BELT RETRACTOR SERVICE INFORMATION) and ITB10-071 (2009-2010 INFINITI G37 CONVERTIBLE; RATTLE NOISE FROM REAR ROOF AREA).

Let me know if you need ITB11-012 (2009–2010 INFINITI G37 CONVERTIBLE; PRE-TENSIONER SEAT BELT RETRACTOR SERVICE INFORMATION).

I have to give Infiniti big props on this issue. (Sucks that it was a bad design in the first place but they sure did right by me in resolving it!)

Took my car in for the usual oil change (26K and change on the odo) and just mentioned to my service advisor that I was bummed about my door dings. (I mentioned in another thread that I knew I had put a couple on the car but also had some bodywork done and had some new dings added by the body shop.)

I just asked if there was any kind of "fix" for the belts to reduce/eliminate future damage...

Since they said it would take a little while to examine the belts and look into the issue, I got a loaner car and went to work.

Couple hours later I got a call telling me they would be replacing both door panels and the belts, all under warranty.

The panels are perfect again. They even injected some more of that cancer-causing "new car" smell ;-) And you can totally tell that the belts "feel" different than the old ones. I feel like they may be narrower (but don't have the old ones any more to verify) cause it seems that even when you let the buckle rest where it used to catch between door panel and seat, it just doesn't seem to be anywhere near as easy as it was to wedge there. (Of course, from habit, I still find myself carefully unbuckling and resting the buckle up by the snap-loop anyway. I guess I even still give new passengers the "hey watch the buckle caution too" lol.)

Not a bad experience at all, especially since I also got to use my $29 oil change coupon!

So... "THANKS!" to the folks that have been saying Infiniti will cover replacement door panels. (The body shop I fought with had checked into them and said one panel was like $1200!!!) Infiniti's awesome service saved me a bunch of hassle going to small claims and made me really happy to have that "new car" feeling again.

I spoke to my dealership and they are telling me that there is no parts available at this time. which could mean they are looking at it. they are confused as there is no part numbers on the TSB. they are also trying to tell me the d shaped clip is just flipped over with an additional spacer under the mount. it clear states in the TSB that the "re-designed D-shaped clip" needs to be replaced.

I think i am going to have to phone Infiniti of Canada again and start bitching at them some more!! maybe then Infiniti Canada will start addressing the issue unless they want to keep changing the door panels! wonder which one is cheaper?

I told Infiniti of Canada i did not buy a $60,000 CDN car to have to tell everyone getting in and out to watch the seat belts or to have to post a warning sign outside the door to be careful when closing the door cause the ****ty seat belt might be in the door!

I am just ranting as this is starting to **** me off.

It took my dealer 2 weeks to get the parts in, then they were the wrong color or something. They reordered and last I heard the parts had just arrived after 4 weeks!!! I think there is some shortage on these parts. Be patient and you will get your seat belts and door panels fixed.

Did you get the seat back cover replaced? IMHO I would jut request the belt retractors with higher tension. my dealer advised against the replacement of the covers with 2 buttons. Those retractors may be harder to get due to the disaster in Japan, but I have been told that Nissan has secondary source in US too.

Good Luck.

My suggestion just get only the seat belt re-tractors replaced and only damaged panels, seat back cover with 2 buttons really dosen't do much (was my dealer's tech advise).
