It's not bad to do, you can spin the tires by turning off the VDC. You can get faster 0-60 and stuff by loading the tranny.

Also I sort of call BS since Nissan does have the throttle cut when the brake is applied, so you won't get full throttle. But it probably will still.

It's called a "POWER BRAKE" or BRAKE STAND.

 

How come we are assuming the brother in law is his sister's husband? It could be his wife's brother. Regardless, a brother in law should not be allowed behind the wheel.

 

Regardless of which BIL these are sensitive relationship

 

1) my wife's sisters husband.
2) I did not know what he was doing until after it happened
3) He will never drive my car again. it was just a courtesy to let him test drive.
4) He drives a sienna so I will never want to drive his.
5) I won't repeat this but I will turn the VDC once in a while. Sometimes hearing the wheels squeal gives me a power rush

it puts unnecessary strain on the tranny. the tranny takes a lot of torque and then converts it... if the tires are gripping, and the brakes are applied to stop the tires from spinning... the tranny takes the torque-pressure until the rear brakes loose grip, then the tires have to loose grip.... and finally he tranny can let all that built up torque pressure out. this happens in the matter of seconds... but trust me, its a lot of power/pressure the engine is putting on the tranny.

this wont kill your car, but certainly puts A LOT of strain on your car.
not to mention the wearing of the brake pads, the sudden temp changes your brake fluid will experience, and the wearing of your tires.

 

in my book, that doesn't make him your brother in law... just your wife's sister's husband. if he was your wife's brother, then he would be a brother in law... that being said... i wouldn't let my wife's sister's husband drive any of my cars... in fact, i wouldn't let him ride my bycicle.

 

Agree. I think that's your "Sister in law's husband". And he's a jerk.

 

It's not detrimental to you car, honestly. But it does add unnecessary stress and strain to your motor. Not to mentioned added stress on your transmission. Will you car die a year sooner because of this one? Absolutely not. Don't let him try it again though. Not in your car vert anyways...lol

 

Why not return the favor and try the same exact thing with your brother-in-law's Siena? I doubt it will do it spin the tires, but you could laugh at his neutered choice in vehicles. May be his tranny or differential will just drop to the ground if you are lucky. Justice served.
