Test Drove a Convertible- Impressions

I'm also an old fart and bought the Vert for different reasons.
I've been riding bikes for the last 35 years ending with a 2006 Goldwing. I was looking for a convertible which would give me as much a bike-like feel as possible. I test-drove a number of other brands and although they're all nice cars none had that wind-in-the-face, road-feel and sheer power as the G37S, in that price range. I drive this car with the roof and all the windows down and I honestly can say that I get as much wind as I used to on the Wing with the added benefit of a super sound-system and the comfort of a very comfortable seat. I go for "burns" in the Rockies, evenings and week-ends, the rest of the time the roof is up and the car becomes a commuter.

In fact we did check out the S-2000, but its engine is just barely bigger than the Wing (2100 vs. 1800), the Wing had more usable trunk space than the car and, the real show-stopper, I'm 6'3" and could not sit in the car with the roof up.
The height issue recurred with a couple of other models we tested, in fact even in the G37 Coupe my head was touching the roof (the model we tested had a sun-roof), while the G37 convertible's roof is thinner and I just clear it with the seat all the way back, all the way down and slightly reclined.
In fact we did check out the S-2000, but its engine is just barely bigger than the Wing (2100 vs. 1800), the Wing had more usable trunk space than the car and, the real show-stopper, I'm 6'3" and could not sit in the car with the roof up.

Drove this myself yesterday. I picked the G37 s liquid platinum which is what I drive in the coupe. Subtle improvements, the polished aluminum paneling inside are more resilient. The screen is more planed down for lighting. The exhaust sounds more thoaty when in stop or parked. As Kaboom said it is definately more sublte driving. That is to be expected though. I gotta tell ya never owned a convertible,but this car is pretty sweet. My only complaints are a little more horsepower and better looking with top up.

my big experience the other day ... i drove a new G37 convertible 50 miles away to a VIP client of mine.... drove her '07 Mercedes Benz CLk350 back to the benz dealership for her since she's off lease.....
she's paying half the lease price than she was and got tons of more features...
I'm glad Infiniti didn't go with a softtop -- that benz you can hear the roadnoise like there was no tomorrow. Her wheels were bent and you feel the vibration from it. Nav is outdated in the Benz.
I just wish there was a way you can use the voice recognition for the G convertible when the top is down.
25.8mpg cruising at 65mph out to her on all highway made me happy to see that.

Way Impressed
Test drove a liquid platinum vert with 7 AT, sport, premium and nav.
Very impressed! The lines of the car, top up or down are simply striking, exhaust sounded good, but as stated above, I could go for a bit more "noise". I thought the 7AT shifted better by itself than I did using the paddles. I haven't been able to drive a 6MT yet (drove a G35 with the manual and really dug the manual). So now it is time to find a that elusive Athens blue, Stone/Washi 6MT sport, premium, nav with spoiler. Found a Pacific sky blue with grapite interior and all the above for basically list (great deal it appears) but if I'm going to do it, want to get the right color combo vs regretting it later

I leave for Afghanistan this summer and will probably wait till I return and see if either Infiniti is offering some more color choices (would love to see them use the 370Z Monterey blue and Persimmon leather combo) as well as hopefully give the G37 6MT the synchro rev match that the 7AT and 370Z's 6MT has.
