First, you don't need to ship your OEM's to have the curb rash fixed. Just contact any local high-end dealer (Porsche, M-B, etc) and ask if they have a wheel repair person that comes in. Any decent size dealer has one. If you're ever in SFL, I know someone that will make them like new for only $75 per wheel. The ONLY downside to the OEM 19's are the pathetic offsets.
Oh, and weight-wise they're anywhere from 20-22lbs depending on whom you ask. This is ridiculously light, but if you're downsizing only to save weight, it's not worth it. You have to add/drop about 8lbs per corner to feel any difference in acceleration and especially handling. Anyone that tells you otherwise is just suffering a placebo effect.
And lastly, I wouldn't recommend something as big as 10.5" and 295 tires and then worrying about rubbing with a drop. For a wide, aggressive stance, choosing the correct offset is FAR more important than running such wide wheels and tires (a secret not known to most of our Volk friends). Even 255's with the right offsets will look better than 285's tucked deep inside the wheel well, so take your time choosing the right wheel

And if you want to lose more weight, try replacing the heavy OEM rotors with a 2-piece up front and something lighter in the rear. I replaced my front 13 inch Brembo with 15.2 inch 2-piece units and lost 6 pounds each. The rears, made by Centric, are 4 pounds lighter each.
Also, be sure to check out the weight of the ties, which can vary greatly by manufacturer.

I'm not sure what year G you have, but it seems that you have 19's on it now. Why would you drop down to 18's. If you plan on drag racing, more sidewall might be better, but other than that, you might want to go with at least 19's. Don't want to regret it later.
As far as wheel widths goes, one of the nicest cars in the FGC has 8.5" wheels on the front and 9.5" wheels on the back. If you look at the recent AF Meet pictures, his car was ...er... the centerpiece.

I also went ahead and got the Hotchkis sways...
Looks like I'll be putting my curbed, stock 19" wheels (and relatively bald tires) up for sale soon--if anyone here is interested I'll give you first dibs.
Next I'm gonna part the G35 branded CAI (realy and Injen withg an etched G35 logo but costing $75 more) and go with the Stillen and Ztube since I have the plenum spacer and everyone has been under the impression that I am losing power with the CAI I have...
I'll post pics soon!!!
