Loose Belts
Anyone know how to change out the fan belt. I started up the car this morning and my baby started screetching like a Bitch. It finally stopped but im a little worried about it. This is the second or third time this has happened. Also does anyone know the negative effects on your engine if you drive witha loose fan belt for too long.
Thank in advance

Drop a drop of oil on the inner belt and the sound should go. I am not sure if this is good but i am sure its a quick fix.....a few drops from the dip stick should do it........
there isnt a fan belt, we have electric fans!!
now you have a AC belt and a power steering, water pump and alternator belt...
maybe its one of those, it might be your blinker fluid also..
its easy to change if you plan on doing it

okay Im pretty sure its one of the belts happens only in the morning then when it warms up it runs just fine. I just dont want to take it in just for new belts.
hey Jermey could a Novice do it with a little instruction and some hand tools(excluding a torque rench). Im always worried about proper torque specs specialy whenit comes to pulleys. Dont anything flying off when I driving down the road.
Chuck, how the hell do I check that.
Oh and if anyone wants to help me do it Im sure it will be a fun time watching me screw up my car.

pulley tensioners are for girls!!
all you have to do is remove that stupid plastic cover that covers up the whole bottom of the engine, look up there and you will see two belts, these two belts spin around the ribbed sections, one has 6 ribs, one has 4 ribs, these belts also spin around one pulley that has no grooves on it, this is the pulley that tightens up and keeps the belts tight. the way this tightens up is ..
these is a 14mm bolt in the front of the pulley. you have to loosen it first. then the only other step is to look up from the bottom, there is a 12mm bolt that makes that pulley go up and down,
basically loosen the 14mm then turn the 12mm from the bottom and it will give you slack in the belt. then remove the belt and put on the new ones
you will need to then tighten up the 12mm till the belt is nice and tight, then tighten the 14mm in the front and you are done.
both belts are exactly the same....
they are the smaller black pulleys on the side of the big one in the middle
good luck!!
