Hi everyone! New to the forums here, but I don’t own a G; I’ve got a NISMO Z34, but since our platforms are quite similar, I thought I’d ask here since I can’t find my answer definitively on the 370Z forum and subreddit.
To preface,I don’t want to tune unless it’s out of necessity (for the longevity of the VQ). Currently, my two mods are AAM Competition’s HFCs and Resonated Short Tails. My question is, with longevity in mind, would I need a tune if I were to install drop-in dry filters (deciding between K&N, aFe, or HKS) and Z1’s post-MAF silicone tubes/breather hoses?
Again, I’m quite happy with the power/throttle response as is and don’t want to tune/mess with the ECU/warranty.
Just as Rochester mentioned. No tune required. On a different note to touch on the intake. I went with the afe. Have had them for over a year and have had no issues and easy for maintenance/upkeep.

Thank you for the reassurance! I’ll look into which filters to run a bit later, but I’m glad I’m safe with this upgrade without a tune.
Hi OP. Though the tune wont be needed, the massive difference after will be worth it. You could always go with a more expensive route which is to get a spare MT ecu ( 370z ecus are all the same once tuned)
Get it tuned and ready. For those times you have to visit the dealer pop the factory one back in there and you'll be fine. If you plan on keeping the car forever, invest in a spare ecu.

Keeping the car forever is definitely the plan, but once the original VQ is done, I’m thinking of boosting a fully built VQ or even dropping a built RB years down the road (though a friend of mine who owns an R34 mentioned it might not be the best idea since cost and the RB weighing more is a thing).
But I’m going to look more into the spare ECU as you suggested since I’ve never thought of that before as an option, so thank you!

The reason is because to be able to swap back to your ecu one would need to have NATS disabled.
