Help Weird Front End Whirring/Howling Noise
Weird Front End Whirring/Howling Noise
Hey all,
Been having this weird whirring or whine noise from the front end (center of the car, no specific side). The sound is only noticeable from ~20-40mph with the windows up, both acceleration and deceleration. The sound does change with speed within that range and shifting to neutral while coasting has no effect. However, the sound is not reproduced while the car is stationary in park/neutral (only while moving). Turning the car does not have any noticeable affect on the sound either. The front wheel bearings do not have play in them.
Furthermore, my front two tires are a pair of economy tires (Zenna Argus UHP), and I did notice the sound to appear after changing the tires. And the front diff fluid was checked, and was clean; transfer case fluid changed also clean.
Any input? Is it still possible for it to be the bearings, even though the sound is coming from the middle and they have no play? Could it be the diff, or simply the tires?

Most likely its the Wheel bearing. They can be dry and not feel loose (like mine) and still make this noise. This happened to me from not driving my car during the 'pandemic'.
Honestly straight forward to replace if you had just RWD, but probably more involved with AWD. Good luck and report back.
