Hey Guys, new member but always have seen good advice here. So I have a 09 XS with 98K and has been running well except for the usual maintenance. Was sitting idle for about 3 weeks due to COVID, but as soon as I took it out for the first time it started shuttering/shaking over 2.5 rpm. I can accelerate slowly staying in the low rpm range and it will pick up speed with no shaking, but if I give it a little gas and it goes above the 2.5rpm it feels like its about to stall out. Took it to the dealer and they said: Engine Oil pressure low, multi-miss fire from coils and that I should replace the engine. Not sure what to do as they are asking $5700. Any experience with an engine replacement and is it worthwhile? Should I get a second opinion from an independent shop? Also any suggestions on parting out the car if I can't fix it? Looking for another shop near Silver Spring, MD to get some confirmation on the issue.

 

I’d get an OBD tool for yourself to check for codes. I’d also check the oil pressure. I dont recall the pressures expected at what RPM but the FSM would have that info. If it’s low, then many cases result in a bad galley gasket.

As far as the multi misfire there’s many reasons, but I would narrow it down to which cylinders are missing and go from there.

 

First and foremost, unless you have mechanical skills and know how, have a reputable shop- preferably one that specializes in Nissan- and have them run a oil pressure test. Any pressure reading less than what is specified in the FSM is a major red flag:

Until you get this test, I wouldn't worry about all of the other codes or issues.

 

Definitely get a second opinion.

 

Thanks for the advice. Definitely don’t have a lot of know how, so will start with the oil pressure test as suggested. Just need to find a shop close by to get it checked out.
