G37 Sedan Metal Noise When Shifting Into Drive/Reverse
So I just received bought a 2013 G37 Sedan with 69k on the dash from a reputable dealership in my area. I got it maybe two and a half weeks ago. About three maybe four days ago when going to work, I put the car into drive and heard a loud metal against metal noise, it sounded very unpleasant to say the least. I usually drive with the music loud, but the past couple of days I turn the music down and let down my window when parking or reversing to see if it makes the noise, and it does. Maybe 8/10 times it makes the noise. I went the safe route and bought the three year warranty from the dealer which included things of this nature, engine, and transmission problems. What’s you guy’s thoughts? I’m really new to the car scene, this being my first car at 19.
Yikes.
This is an automatic?
Any fluid leaks?
I'm certainly not an expert, but some initial ideas:
Transmission fluid could be low or dirty, cracked or chipped gear, could also be the differential.
I would take the car back to the dealership immediately to have them take a look.
You will likely need to see a transmission specialist.
Don't wait on something like this.

Same problem.
I am 18 and just bought my first car (2011 G37xs sedan) today I was driving and got the same problem! I was driving in automatic then when I came to a stoplight my car clunked and died! now when I put the car in drive or reverse I hear an awful grinding metal noise. once driving a car sounds perfect but only at idle in those 2 gears, it will make the noise.
Is the metal noise a loud thud? Like if someone took a sledgehammer to the rear of the car? After I installed urethane differential bushings and aluminum subframe bushing collars, I started getting this when shifting into D/R on inclines. Do you know if the previous owner did any modifications?

Could be excess lash in the differential ring/pinion, loose driveshaft bolts, issues with the transmission reverse gear. Does it click when going from Park to Drive, or only when going from Reverse to Drive.
