Angry 2012 G37X Engine Replacement

I have a 2012 G37X with 67,000 miles on it, I got engine vibration and an error code for cylinder 5 misfiring. After taking it to the Nissan dealer they did a diagnostic with a borescope, and found that cylinder 5 was damaged. I have taken good care of the care, doing Mobile 1 oil changes and servicing on time. I bought the car brand new in 2012, and haven't done any racing or performance mods. My question is how on earth does this happen? Nissan engines are supposed to be pretty solid, seems like i got a lemon.

I'm out of warranty and the dealer quoted me $6,700 for a used engine swap (45K). My mechanic could probably do it for $3,500. Any recommendations on engine swaps, will it lead to more problems, or should I just get rid of the car. (KBB is about 9-11K, Carmax is offering 6K).

Sorry to hear but it looks like you got a lemon. Very rarely I hear a G needs engine replacement at that kind of mileage. I would call Infiniti Consumer Affair and raise hell. Some members here were able to get their repair bill paid partially by Nissan.

Good luck and if you do decide to get a new engine, get a 2013+ to avoid the dreaded oil galley gasket problem.

Yup, I agree. That's exactly what I suggested here and even though OP was also out of warranty he said they covered 50%. GL!
