G37 running on bad ps pump for 1mo

My G37 has been running with a bad ps pump for about a month now. I know thats a long time, its been hard trying to find the right one for the sport model.

Does my system need a flush after power steering pump failure? Does a bad pump contaminate the system with debris?

I dont want to break the replacement due to debris in the system from the old pump.

I bought one from a part out and it started making loud whine noises less than a minute after I turned the car on.

Strictly speaking unless there is physical damage (as opposed to it just stop working) a flush is probably not necessary but removing most of the fluid and putting in fresh fluid is so easy and only takes a few minutes so its probably a good idea anyways...The part you got making the noise may have been bad, but when you change the pump you will have in the system and just need to let the system bleed and top up the fluid

Remember it uses atf fluid. Suction out as much of the old fluid refill with new atf fluid like Mobil one. Do this again a week later.

You can use a turkey baster or anything similar...theres not that much fluid in the system and most of it sits in the reservoir, as Surf said, do it again a week later (i.e after it has circulated in the rest of the system) and pretty much all the original fluid will have been replaced..theres really good DIYs on it if you dig around

Thats good to know. I was imagining a bunch of fluid in the system I couldnt get to. If most of it is in the reservoir then I can see how most of the fluid will be replaced anyways as all this fluid is drained when I removed the pump.

I guess the replacement I received was just bad like Baadnewsburr had said.

Also thanks to Surfnazi for letting me know its just ATF fluid. WHen i replaced the first pump the oReillys clerk only gave me 1 option which was some fluid that was 14.99 a quart

I have another pump arriving today. Hopefully its the one for the sport model and is in good working conditions.

Get 50 or 100cc syringe stick in ps fluid tank. Suction out as much as you can and refill. Do this again after a week then once more 2 weeks later

I replaced the power steering pump and it worked on and off for a week, sometimes I had to turn the wheel to full lock and give it some gas and it would start working again. Almost as if it was clogged and the added pressure would push through and make it work again.

Now its just not working at all again. It was great while it lasted. I forgot what power steering felt like

Recently I noticed the original pump had tiny chunks of metal in it and the fluid is silver looking. If there was more tiny chunks of metal in the system Im sure something may have gotten clogged.

Is there a specific line that would get clogged?

What exactly does high revs at full lock damage?

Looks like Some of the metal vanes broke probably grinded into pieces which explains my silverish fluid.

Im sure the replacement pump got clogged with the debris leftover from this.

I had to replace the rack, all the bebris from the broken pump clogged up the rack and pinion which i found out when every replacement pump I would install would break after a couple days. Clog was causing too much pressure
