Anyone running the z1 intake plenum manifold? It looks like a cool mod for the g. Thinking of getting this add on and a uprev tune to get some extra power for the vert yto make up a little for the extra 400 pounds.

Is that thing made out of plastic? Regardless, what's the approx. HP gain? I too would like to add a little kick to the accelerator pedal in my vert.

 

From what I understand (and unfortunately I'm only as smart as I look), it is plastic, it's the same as the OEM just the manifold opening are sanded to make them wider. If you take off your engine cover, I believe you will see the same thing.

I think Z1 is saying that it is a 14hp gain, but check their website and I think that may be with other mods like intake and exhaust.

Do your research, I'm thinking about getting one, but with all the research I've done, it doesn't feel conclusive that it is worth the money, but again, I'm only as smart as I look, I could be completely wrong and am looking forward to more input on this thread

 

It's a re-worked (ported) stock plastic intake.

Z1 VQ37 Intake Plenum Power Mod 370Z & G37

 

Interesting - what mods are they using on the stock IPL engines? They are coming in around 345hp right? Maybe larger bore and stroke w/modified heads?

 

Slight tweak to the intake & exhaust along with some ECU mapping magic. The bottom line is that the extra HP is a numbers game in order to justify the additional $ for the IPL and make the owners feel special. IPL is nothing like the BMW M platform or the MB AMG platform that each offer unique modifications for substantial HP increases over their respective models.

 

If its just sanding it makes me wonder if something similar can be done at a performance shop with decently skilled mechanics for about the same price, and maybe avoid the hassle of getting the plenum shipped to you and then having to ship your oem one back. I've also read of people receiving 370 plenums instead of g37 ones. not that it makes a difference really, but just saying

I'm also considering this as the next option since i already did intake/cats/exhaust. if $250 could net another ~10hp, why not?!!!

 

There is no difference between the 370z and G37 manifold. All Nissan 3.7L engines use the exact same intake collector mainfold. Im curious as to how anyone would know if it came form a 370Z or a G37 since they have the same exact part number and are identical in every way.

I'm all for saving a buck on mods. But how much cheaper than $295 do you think your local performance shop will charge to do the work?

 

I'm curious to if the Motordyne or Z1 is better or if there is a difference. If I do get one, I'd like to keep my OEM one, in case there is an issue or if I ever do decide to sell the car, I'd rather sell the mods separately to try and get back some of my money...but probably won't ever sell or tade in this car

 

@blackbetty - its not about saving money, I said more for the convenience of having it done locally, probably same day, without all the hassle of shipping etc.

let me google around and try to refind it.Ii remember seeing some post saying that the 370 plenum received back was slightly different in appearance or something.

 

Whatever you might find, it's wrong. It's the same part. It doesn't look any different. As I said ALL 3.7L VQ engines use the same one. The covers are different, the upper air intake collector isn't. They share the same part number.

If you end up finding a shop to modify one, post up the cost and the time it will take please. I'm curious.

 

My porter at a local shop is $30hr. A metal lower manifold on our cars run about $90.
