Light Clutch Pedal After Driving on Freeway
Light Clutch Pedal After Driving on Freeway
Welp, I think I may be seeing signs of the infamous clutch issues...
Had heard about this being an issue and had hoped they sorted this out on the 2013s and that if it did happen that it would do so before the B2B warranty was up, but I think I am starting to see/feel my first signs and the warranty is gone.
I don't know if my situation is unique or not, but I notice my clutch pedal gets very light after driving on the freeway for a good stretch, maybe like 15 minutes straight. I've noticed this in the last 3 days or so on my commute to and from work. The other day it was bad enough to cause me to stall out when I tried to get a jump on a light to make the next one. But once I shift through all the gears and a little stop and go, it returns to normal, or at least there's resistance the full travel of the pedal beside the catch point. When I get in the car initially its good.
I've done some reading and checked the fluid... filthy and it's below the max line, maybe just above the MIN line. But I park in the same spot in my apartments and I have no spots on the ground to signify any leaks.
So I'm wondering should I just start with the fluid bleed, or should I go ahead and get ready to replace one or both of these cylinders?
Really sux, I just watched my boy go through this with his 2008 Civic Si going through the cycle of replacing the slave and then the master multiple times after about 4 failures. I really don't want to have to do this multiple times...

If you don't plan on doing the repairs yourself I would have a shop give you a proper diagnosis. If you're replacing the CSC then you might as well replace the clutch/flywheel while the transmission is out. I believe it's 6-8 hours of labor to drop the transmission. I just went through this and now my car is at the dealership again because I think they messed up on my RJM pedal assembly install. I've had a '17 Q60 Silver Sport for about a month now so that's been sweet lol. My next car will be auto and AWD.
Not at that point of replacing anything yet, just thinking I need to go ahead and wrap my mind around the idea it could happen... Being that it feels completely normal except after the situation I described, I think I'll start with the clutch fluid bleed. Think I may try to DIY that this weekend. I also think the cold weather we're having here in Houston may also be affecting it, as I've only observed it when it's cold out. But as far as replacing the CMC and CSC... I will leave that to a professional.
How long do the actual clutches on these cars last? I wasn't considering that, but if the tranny does come out, I do see your point in it would make sense to go ahead and replace the clutch, instead of doing it all over again... and I'm over 62k miles...but the $$$ tho...
