Most auto part shops will have the scanner that they can check the code for free. It can be something as minor as a loose gas cap or something serious like low oil pressure.
check engine lights can come on for hundreds of reasons. whatever it is if its a emissions related component failure it will be covered under the federal emissions extended warranty.
Thanks crookncastle. The did go in for emission testing at a state-approved testing center in Milwaukee. Trying to recall if the engine light came on after the testing. The warranty you speak about is only on federal emission testing?
Just go to an Autozone, or Advanced auto, they will check it for free. My light went on, and all it needed was a new gas cap, the old one wouldn't seal, kicked on the engine light
hurleyguys,
really strange. been driving around for over a week with engine light on. Made appmt at Infiniti for today. On the way there up until I parked the car the light was on. The service consultant comes out to drive car in and no light. He didn't think it necessary to run the scan bc engine light was not on. Go figure.
ya like bommerang said have it scanned anyway. it will have saved codes in your ECU. so what it was before you just write it off and say it was nothing.
