Engine Burning Oil?

Hello everyone. Today, I was conducting routine G37xS coupe maintenance and noticed that my engine oil level was lower than expected (still near the "high" mark, but obviously lower than the level achieved during my last oil change). I ended up topping off about 400 ml of Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30 oil to get it back to where the original level was.

Since my last oil change, I have driven exactly 3,731 miles. These miles were accumulated mostly in heavy stop and go traffic for 1.5 hours daily (or 26 miles round trip commute).

In addition, I had my engine valve covers and spark plugs replaced at 1,321 miles after my last oil change. Neither of these two jobs required removal of my freshly changed oil or caused any oils to leak out at the time. Even today during my routine G-maintenance, there were no visible oil leaks from anywhere on the engine (including the valve covers).

Is is normal that my 2012 G37xS coupe needed a 400 ml fresh oil top off or is this a point of concern for a potential problem with engine burning oil (engine oil consumption?)? Could the increase in stop and go traffic commute this summer cause the engine to burn oil and if so, is this normal?

I have never needed to top off my engine oil since 2012 when I purchased my G37xS coupe brand new. Today was the first time and it is concerning to me.

Anyone have any insights?

That seems like a very normal amount of oil consumption given the miles driven. Monitor it to see if it significantly increases during your next oil change interval.
