So for others having a lease return car that may have been neglected but aren't sure what are some maintenance items that can be done? What do I ask for? I get my oil changes done normally and have gotten the rear diff serviced. It's at 38k now.

What oil should I run? Scary stuff. Glad it worked out for you.

 

At 38k I would get the brake fluid changed. I'd also check engine and cabin filters if you haven't already.

If cost is no option i'd get Redline or Motul because they are group 5 ester based oil.

 

So, was the broken gasket paper or metal? Sorry if I miss that info in the thread.

 

A Blackstone oil analysis would also be a good idea.

 

Royal Purple also a GF-5 oil (actually beyond GF-5 spec). Dramatic difference in my experience. I used Motul in all my Italian bikes but I would not hesitate to use Royal Purple in the G (I do currently use it) and can be found fairly easily in your local auto parts stores. Motul will most likely need to be mail-ordered and will be more expensive.

 

Had the same codes spring up again today. Back to the dealer tomorrow.

 

Hopefully they'll just get you a new engine.

Ugh. I think rsinger's right...I'm sure you'll have to jump through this same hoop a few times before they replace it. And it'll have to literally be the entire engine.

 

What's lemon law like where you live?

 

I would bet, now that the gasket is repaired, that this could be something as simple as the camshaft solenoid. We will see.

They've ordered a driver's side outer timing cover. Wondering if i was right

 

This time around they replaced the timing cover assembly, camshaft sprocket and VCT solenoid. Car seems to be driving well. Also, the vibration at idle (which they said was nothing) has abated significantly and the high pitched noise i was hearing at WOT above 6500 RPM (which they said was normal intake noise) is gone.
