To get suckers to pay more money for unnecessary maintenance and make them feel like their cars are special? It's the exact same engine. Same tune. different exhaust which doesn't affect spark plugs at all.
I can't verify that 100% because I don't have an IPL owners manual and I'm too lazy to Google it. But I'm going to say yes anyway because to spec a different plug on the same engine wouldn't serve any purpose and wouldn't make financial sense for Infiniti to do.
I looked it up on Sparkplugs.com and they list the same plugs for both. I'll look in my owner's manual later and see if they spec a non-iridium. I better start saving for plugs now!
Edit: Checked AutoZone which allowed me to choose an IPL or a base/journey/sport. They also list the OEM plug, which is unsurprisingly a Denso. Same heat range, same part number.
The mystery continues....

Hey guys,
so I have an 08 G37 Sport, in which I changed the plugs at 50k and being that I'm at 107k, would it be necessary to change them out again? Considering so, my idle at times can be a little rough (thats really exaggerating - just might clean my TB regardless) but other then that there are no signs of needing replacement. I'm just looking at it from the perspective of preventative maintenance. With the amount of miles on my G, I've replaced just about everything regarding normal wear and tear, so the spark plugs are the last replacement I would have to do.
Thanks!
Mike
what are the other preventative maintenance items you’ve replaced? My G sedan has about 135k and I don’t think much had been done to it at all other than oil changes and such. Really getting the feeling things are beginning to need replaced or at least checked.
Looked up the service intervals from Prodemand This is for my 2010 G37x but, I would suspect the same for all using iridium plugs.
OE wrote this maint schedule, verified same maint recommendation on motologic and alldata also.
Plugs wear out no matter what you think. I am a tech, I also work in academia, I can give you the full on scientific workings behind how plugs wear out over time and use, mileage is a good indicator but obviously driving conditions etc are the true measures of longevity.
A premium plug is whats in your car, to get peak performance, stick to the schedule. If you dont want premium performance, sell the car and get an Altima. If you cant afford the service schedule, sell the car and buy something cheaper. Basic, NON SEVERE SERVICE INTERVAL
For IPL, I would say stick to the interval, if they say 60k, its because its diminishing the life of the plugs that quickly
