Southbend stage 2 daily clutch with billet steel 19lb flywheel HELP

I just installed the southbend stage 2 daily clutch with southbend billet steel 19lb flywheel, HD CSC and new master cylinder from ZSPEED and I wanted to see if anyone have this same setup on their g37s.

Everything is fine but I'm getting worried about the loud chatter noise when i put a load onto the car.

For example, I'm slowing down at a stop sign and put it on "N" and then pop it to 2nd at 5mph and start accelerating, it makes this harsh rattle chatter noise until i reach 2k rpm.

It even happens on first gear when I'm going from a dig but the noise goes away quicker then being on second gear.

I found this 350z video from youtube and I believe that I have the same problem.

Could anyone let me know if this is normal?
I'm just getting worried that my mechanic might of done a bad install...
But other than the noise at low rpms, it's fine and drives a lot better.
The chatter on idle also went away completely compared to stock.

Please let me know if anyone have this same problem after installing a new clutch with lighter flywheel.

Thanks.

J

Thanks.

Chatter of that nature is totally normal. It's caused by going form a very heavy dual-mass flywheel to a lightweight single-mass flywheel.

It's pretty much unavoidable when going aftermarket, although South Bend makes something called a "quiet disc" that is supposed to suppress the chatter. My car is in the shop right now getting a new clutch/flywheel with the silent disc option, so I can't comment on how well it works just yet.

Unfortunately, you'll have to live with it. But just know that it's completely normal.

I have the exact package on my G that I got installed a month ago. When I first drove it I was shocked as well but that is what flywheel chatter is. You have a lighter flywheel than stock OEM and once the car is under load, that sound and vibration and transmitted through the drivetrain.

TL;DR: flywheel chatter is normal going from dual mass to single mass flywheel

Thanks for the reply guys. I was freaking out when I heard that chatter under load in 1st and 2nd gear.

I guess I just need to change my driving style(STAY AT HIGH REVS) to avoid the noise.

Other then the chatter noise, it drives great...!!!
I could shift from 1st to 6th gear quickly and smooth a lot better compared to stock setup(lazy manual setup lol).

I got mine from Joe at zspeed. Thanks again Joe!

Now I regret selling all my parts(r2c intakes, hks hi power full exhaust, berk test pipes, kw v3 coils and volks gt30 20's in gold finish) after a new clutch/flywheel. =(

Lol yeah Mike is a good friend except for the fact that he steals my license plate frames and puts his on every time he's near my car haha.

And yeah that's where those pics were taken. I'm guessing you're in the area too?

Damn is the clutch chatter that bad??
I'm thinking of the Southbend Stage 3 package.
Seems like the Quiet Disk option for $50 is well worth it now..

On stock I hear a bit of noise at idle when I press clutch.
I only noticed it last 6 months though. Not sure if its same clutch chatter described. I don't hear it while driving just in 1st before blending.

Here's my review of the "quiet disc" option:

Short answer is it's WELL worth it.
