car won't start troubles

To begin with sorry if this is not the adequate place to post this here but I figured since it's about G37..

The story goes. I bought this car monday 2008 G37s manual 10k miles. Picked it up Wednesday with no problems, 1st day of driving as soon as I got close to my house the serpentine belt tore on me. No biggie I bought a new one and replaced it.. After that belt tore all these problem started.. for some reason the oil light would come off and on. But more like a flicker Like something was loose.. and it went away. Well 3rd day of having the car drove in the morning to work fine No problems. Lunch came around and I was heading to lunch started up fine, threw 1st gear no problem. Threw 2nd I heard a noise. Like a plastic vibrating or something And the engine died..

Car cranks over but does not start. Car throws no codes, already checked it with A scanner. I read for a bit and alotta people say the 08 g37s have battery issues. So just to clear my mind I took it to oriellys and it tested bad. They showed the machine. So no monkey business.

Could the battery be the problem that maybe all the electronics are not getting the 12v to start the engine but enough to crank it over.?.

Test the battery yourself with a battery hydrometer.

There should be a date code on the battery. If it is the original battery or older than 4 years just replace it.

it is the original battery so it's a 08..7 years on it and maybe it's out already.. where could I get that battery hydrometer?

A 2008 with only 10k miles, that would trip the alarm bells for me. Try a volt meter or better yet, get a battery tester (good thing to have anyhow) that shows charging voltage, standby voltage and battery health under load. I got mine at Sears.

If it's the original battery that explains everything definitely needs replacement, did good 7 years is plenty of life for a battery I'm sure you be fine with a new one just go for it

Good question well I'm not sure I mean if the battery is super dead I'm sure even by jump starting it won't start. It need enough juice to start it but I can't be sure. All I know I was at the end of my battery life because a couple months before that I got my battery recharged and it worked for a couple of months and then it happened again and I knew to change it and it was already past its 4 years. You might have something else wrong but if they determined your battery was gone most likely that will be the cause of it not starting in my opinion.

crank no start issues usually are the result of 2 symptoms. either you don't have fuel going to the engine or perhaps you lack spark for the ignition system. check if you have fuel pressure with a gauge. if pressure is good, move on to check the ignition system. check on the scanner if you are getting a crank sensor and cam sensor signal on live data reading as you crank your engine. if cam and crank sensor is providing signal output pull out a plug and coil and check to see if you are getting spark at the plug. if no spark is evident now you have to back track and diagnose why you are not getting primary ignition signal before the coil, which means you would need a etm of your make and model.

So the car was taken to the dealer and found out that it is in fact throwing codes it's throwing both cam bank codes and crank shaft. Spoke to the technician working on the car and he's guessing the car coulda jumped timing and skipped a tooth .. that the 37 motor are know for that.

Still not a confirmed diagnoses but that all he has as of right now.

Jumping timing teeth at 130K seems a bit unexpected. I suppose if the car was abused this would happen. Great this repair is covered under warranty.
