7A/T Forced Induction Issues/Problems

Forum Family!

I have recently come to a standstill on my G37xTT build due to my 7 A/T acting a fool. I currently have a ton of go fast parts sitting collecting dust and would like to continue building but need some help/assistance/insight.

As you may or may not know from my build thread I have been running into issues with the 7 A/T holding power and working correctly with upgrades. I have reached the edge of my sanity with this transmission and do not know where to go/what to do. Here is a short(ish) summary of what has occurred so far:

-TT build completed and the X feels like a beast, amazing road car and fun on the track
-1/4 drag strip, getting higher than expected numbers and thought that it was a traction issue
-Daily driving and hearing a whine from the transmission
-Transmission gives up, will not get into any gear, rpm surges like crazy
-Level 10 completes "Bulletproof" package on the transmission to include torque converter and valve body
-After installation the car pulls hard as hell for a while then starts showing signs of issues (abrupt shift up/down, rpm surge)
-Finally it just gives out after 4th gear (5th and up rpm surge and don't catch)
-Torque Management tables are pushed up through UpRev, this does not help
-Transmission sent to Level 10 again and the result is a broken speed sensor
-After installation the car struggles to relearn the shifts and when it does, it gives up again (this time 4th and up rpm surge and don't catch)

Now I'm currently working with the shop it is at and Level 10 to try and find a definitive answer and fix to this issue. Like I said, I'm beyond frustrated and haven't had my car for most of last year and continuing into this year (GTM issues etc...). I just want to be able to drive/race/track again and continue the build.

Any thoughts/ideas/inputs/help/assistance... would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys/gals!

From: Framingham Ma,
I know this may not be the answer but have you thought about a 5spd auto swap? G35X car? I have read the 5spd's are stronger? Whole reason I didn't go TT on my X coupe or sedan, The Trans is good for only like 330 WTRQ , Sorry man I have been following you for a while with this too

ANMVQ, right now I've been thinking about everything haha. Seeing what bolts up to the VQ37VHR directly or with little modification. Level 10 is offering to ship the car to their location in NJ. They've been very responsive and their warranty is no joke. They have great customer service, hopefully now they can take out the gremlins in the system and get it up and running.

While it's there I'm going to see what they can do for the T-Case for us AWD guys and how "bulletproof" they can make the 7A/T

We shall see, but right now still looking for input/answers. Thanks!

I can only shrug with you, and also support your experience with Pat and the others at Level Ten as you say. Obviously, he WANTS to make this work for you, and testing requires the car.

Staying posted. I wish you better.

Thanks! One of the main reasons I went with Level Ten was because of your build. I post updates.

Coop's G is kind of the bench mark for strong builds. Hoping I can surpass it with the stroked turbo setup (and a WORKING transmission)

I've never heard of a realiable 7AT boosted G37. I've heard of a few that had built trannies but they all had to be replaced sooner rather than later. Same thing with boosted G35s, they are either 6MT or they have major issues. Jatco JR710E 7AT tranny may run for a while but it's not made for much more than 300 lb-ft of torque. Shops like GTM (out of business) used to upgrade 7AT but they would still fail after a year or two. I know Jatco makes JR711E for V8 applications, perhaps this tranny would be a better choice, it's either that or 6MT swap.

***Update***

The G is on the way to Level 10 in NJ. Let's hope they kill whatever gremlin is in my transmission.

Good luck to you Lt8Che, you must of been driving your G pretty hard, I have mine for 2 years now and tranny is still good. Not sure about your install, but my tranny cooler was installed along with the turbos, and Canada's chills are good for cooling

If Infiniti can use the same 7sp for the Q50 Eau Rouge with the GT-R powerplant than I'm sure it CAN be made a reliable tranny while able to withstand a good amount of torque.

From: Framingham Ma,
Are they using the same 7spd or are they using the trans out of the V8 cars?

Thanks everyone. We'll see where we stand with Level 10's diagnosis. They are a stand up shop and have offered to have everything hemmed up (trans/electrical/tuning...). If there are still issues I will be looking into more creative solutions.
