I'm impressesd but not surprised. Pat treated me with professionalism and freindliness.

Good to hear a 7AT builder has it down!

Pat is the man. Very genuine guy! Also, glad that they did the work on the 7A/T, hoping it holds for the finishing touches on the build...

Lt8Che,
Well, it looks like boosted AWD 7AT aren't the only ones having issues with the tranny. Think I just blew up my trans . Doing a turn around under 1604 on Kittyhawk, getting ready to head north to the forum. This is normally my spot to enjoy the acceleration of the G on the on ramp when it is safe to do so.

It started out like any other day...sun shining, not too much traffic, I get into the skinny pedal and all of the sudden I hear some really weird high pitched squeal and the car didn't take off like it normally does. I thought I might have blew a tire or something, I pulled over and checked the tires and all was good. I get back in the car and everything seems fine...at this point I'm thinking that was a little weird especially because the car seems fine.

My thoughts are running wild thinking about all the problems you had with your 7AT. Though, I think to myself "Nah, that won't happen to me...I'm not boosted and I don't have the AWD". Well, everything seems fine, I merged on to I-35, then exited to turn into the forum where the Freddy's Steakburger is...more high pitched squeals accompanied by the car not accelerating when it's supposed to . I immediately stop the car in the forum entrance and place the car in park and that's when I heard the most awful sounds that we definitely don't want to hear coming from our G's. I think I shed a tear .

Anyway, car will not move at all, even reverse won't move the car (had to call a tow truck). The car is still under warranty however, I'm not sure if Infiniti will honor it with the mods I have "Quaife LSD, CF driveshaft, etc. . I might need the phone number for the shop that fixed yours.

Yikes! Sorry to hear the news. High pitched noises may be the Torque Converter or worst case is the Transmission clutch packs (that was my issue). Level 10 in NJ did my transmission work and they were awesome. I wrote up a review on the forum in detail. Hope it's nothing too big and you're back on the road soon!

Hopefully you have a good dealership. Your mods could give them a lot of ammo. Hopefully they do the right thing and see this as an opportunity to make some warranty work money and keep an Infiniti customer loyal and satisfied.

I hope you get things sorted out. If not, give this guy a call. (Sorry. Trying to lighten the mood.)

To share my dilemma in the 7A/T as well....

A loud clunking sound when shifting had become problematic..so I had my tuner check it out...this is what I was told...

Essentially it says he thought a gear was going to shoot out of the side when it would clunk...and that there is something wrong with the fluid pressure or mechanical actuation....ugh

Makes me skeptical about boosting it...-_- Trans only has 26k on it

Along with the high pitched squeal, once I placed the vehicle in park, the trans sounded like a teenage girl learning to drive a standard and forgetting to use the clutch . Horrible, horrible sound.

I'm sure it will work out, I just hope this isn't a long drawn out experience.

Lt8Che, I can't imagine how you dealt with not having your ride for so long.

Yeah, mods or not, I only have around 25,000 miles on the car (don't remember the exact #). I have NEVER had such a major problem go wrong with a car with such few miles on it and I really don't feel that my mods could have had such a negative impact on the car. Driving habits....MAYBE. Might have to reconsider how I drive this thing once I get the G fixed. Though, I didn't buy this car to drive like a little old lady. What's the point of spending all this money on a ride if your gonna drive like you have a Hyundai Accent? I truly enjoy the relatively good performance in a higher than average luxury setting.

"SHIFT IT" - Amazing Transmission Commercial - YouTube
hahahaha...is this a real commercial??? That would be the last guy I would have fix my car!!! Thanks for the laugh bro.

To the forum members that have dealt with these problems before under warranty:

In your experience, does Infiniti just change out the trans for a new one or do they try to fix the trashed one? If they fix the broken one under warranty, are there Nissan/Infiniti upgrades we can pay extra for to "beef it up" as to try and prevent this from happening again?

If they change it out with a new one, are there upgraded versions of the stock trans we can upgrade to? Does the IPL come with the same exact trans?

As much as this situation blows, I am surprisingly calm about it. 10 years ago, I would be flying off the handle right now. As much as I love my car... it is just a car. There is way more important things in life...but d@mn this blows.

Seriously reconsidering the boosted option as well. I had pretty much cemented in my mind that I would do this. However, I have 316hp at the wheel and this happens???

The line pressure and tune are crucial points. If these are not kept consistent with the power then it will destroy the transmission. The TCM needs to be on the same page as the ECU.

Midlife, it sucked not having the car for so long (so I bought a daily S14 haha).

Being boosted is pretty amazing! I would never go back, it's just a bumpy road getting everything perfect.

I think getting the internals built and the torque converter/valve body are the only things we can do with our 7A/Ts.

Midlife, indeed it is. He's got some great Yelp reviews too. lol

Wish you guys with 7AT problems the best of luck!

I won't be boosting mine, ever. I'll save those headaches for when I trade the G in for a Golf R with a Eurodyne tune.
