Fluid Change

Hey Everyone,

I am looking for some advice from the community.

I have a 2011 g37X coupe with 36000 Miles, and I am taking it in for the first service at a local dealer (I purchased it used, and there is still a remaining warranty on it). After talking to the dealer, they recommended changing a the transmission fluid, diff fluid, and everything else for about 550, and all I wanted was the basic 65 dollar service as advertised online...

Now, I live in Minnesota with 'extreme' climate and the SA said that what made this 'critically' important. I want to keep the car for a few years, but I have also done some research and it seems that this is may not be needed..

Am I being robbed?

Thanks.

Yes , you do not need to do all that till a good 50k -60k miles... just get your oil changed and thats all in my opinion

it is an 11 considered fairly new !

you are only being "robbed" if you get the work done at the dealer. there is no reason a quality independent could not do those basic fluid changes for a fraction of the cost - or better yet, DIY and save even more.

if it was me buying a used car with 36k miles and 3-4 years old, i would absolutely do a fluid change on brakes, diff, clutch and gearbox (i am 6MT) as well as oil/filter. power steering fluid and coolant can wait though. this will get you a clean baseline for your ownership of the vehicle.

all this would be ~$250-$300 at most reputable independents, including oil change service.

there is no requirement to service your vehicle at the dealer, regardless if it is under warranty or not. just retain your service records and pocket the savings for your "mod fund". you're new to this forum, trust me the mod bug will bite in short order!

Thanks, and thats ok for the 7AT? The only reason I am taking it to the dealer is that it still has warranty, in case there is something off...

Gotta love the dealerships

Look for service specials online from other Infiniti dealers in your area. These types of services are almost always on a special somewhere and most dealers will accept competitive coupons. At least Socal operates this way.

^ go to your regional forum and ask the folks there. every city has a few great independents with vast experience working on nissan products.

Service manual says inspect fluid every 30,60,90k miles. I had mine inspected at 54k and they said my transmission fluid was fine but my diff fluid needed to be changed, this is for a 6MT but I'm sure the 7AT should compare. Plus i'm in Florida and fluids get a lot hotter than usual compared to other states.
