Spun Rod Bearing - Time for new engine

Here's the vitals:

Year: 2009
Make: Infiniti
Model: G37
Mileage: ~140K
Other: RWD, Stillen G37 dual exhaust

I am not a car tech expert but I love to drive... 120+ miles per day commute and G37 makes the drive a blast... Not willing to give up on my G37!!!

Now the drama - accidently hit the stick into neutral while driving 50+mph resulting in engine going redline... In just a few seconds, spun rod bearing is the end result. Click - Click - Click - some of you know may know that sound.

So, new engine is required. I'm assuming a replacement long block with warranty is the way to go but all of this is new to me. I have confidence in my mechanic to complete the install but I still want to make sure I know what I'm doing.

My budget is not unlimited but I have some $$$ to spend. If I can get even more performance out of the car, I'll go for it...

Key objective is: (1) Gotta get 200K+ miles use out of the car (no accidental redline ever again); and (2) if I can get more performance without jeopardizing the life time of the car - I'll go for it (I've safely logged over 0.5 million miles on 3 cars).

Looking for expert suggestions on how to successfully replace the engine while meeting the objectives.

Thank You!

Ok, I'm no expert on the Nissan engine but I've worked on V8's from Ford, Chevy, Dodge and GMC and have never tossed a motor because of a spun bearing. You simply disassemble the engine, inspect the damage, turn the damaged crank journal down to the next standard size and put in an over-sized bearing. At the very worst, replacing the crank and rod would be my limit. Scrapping an engine for a spun bearing seems a bit drastic.

^^^ Definitely something to look into.

And it sounds as if you are looking for more power from building the motor.

There just has not been man high HP N/A motors built for our cars. I have not seen anybody with aftermarket cams, or head work on the VQ37.

Now if you ever wanted to go with boost you could build it with stronger internals with a lower compression ratio.

Seems like people just go all out with bolt ons to make the most power N/A.

Thanks for the reply... Absinthe's point has me thinking more on this topic. I'll see if the mechanic can give me any other details on the damage to see to the extent a new engine is actually required.

Otherwise - any and all experts out there, let me know you advise.

read up on what I did. post up a video. Just like Absinthe said no point in trashing the motor.
